Please give me recommendations for 80 - 120 horse tractors that I could use to mow grass (w/batwing). I am looking for cheap but reliable (isn't everyone). Also need to be able to put a lift on it. Currently have a 1080 Massey that has blow back out of intake and am ready to replace. Would prefer older (even antique tractor in good shape.

Thanks to all who are responding...the more info I have the more options I am able to consider. Take a look at our website to see what we are trying to keep up with (www.leebottom.com). And please remember, I am not wealthy by any means. Although it may seem so by what you see, anyone who knows anything about aviation will tell you I am certainly broke. Thanks again and keep up the great responses.

Check out an allis 7000, 7010, 7020, or 8010. These all are small block allis tractors (301 inline turbo 6, intercooled also on the 7020). They are 106 (7000, 7010, 8010) or 120 hp (7020). Very fuel efficient, inexpensive, reliable if maintained reasonably well, and plain simple for a tractor of their size. I got my late model cabbed 7000 with HD front end for 7500, looks like it has been shedded all of its life. I just have a couple of things to work out on it this summer and she will be like new. They are a little hard to find for sale (everyone wants to keep them). If you can find one, they are a great value. I might be doing some mowing for hire this summer when I get out of school with it and a 20ft batwing. They are also pretty heavy in the front, so you don't need much if any weight depending on the terrain. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you are looking to spend a little more money, the 10 series fords are great, you can't go wrong with them either, esp with the ol 8spd crash box, they are indestructable. Good luck

I tell you what, out of all of those, the 8010 will problably run you the most, but they were made in the early 80's, but those have a really nice cab on them, full powershift, and if you get one with 4wd, they will go just about anywhere.

70's vintage White and Masseys like a 105 and 1105 or post 70's Whites. Half the price of a Deere and twice as reliable as the same vintage IH's and Deeres.

I use a 60 hp 560 Farmall on my 16' batwing and no lack of power any bigger and I would be hard on gear boxes.
Clipped 100 arces of 3' fescue to 10" last year no problems.
Just my opinion. Gary.

Alittle difference inbetween 80-120hp. Why don't you find out what the power requirements of that batwing you want to use are, and then buy yoursef a tractor to match it instead of just running out and buying something and then finding it's got too much or too little power. I think most of the larger batwings require 75pto hp, but check and make sure.

Yes, my batwing requires at least 69 horse and it is a finish mower. These often takes more power than a bush hog. My new batwing killed my 1080 and I would like to get anything from 80 to 120 in hopes of an even bigger mower in the future. Mowing deck companies always list the absolute minimum hp needed in order to sell more decks. I am sure 90 or 100 hp would be better than 80. I also need something with enough hydraulic connections to work the batwing and a lift.

Rich: Just because it killed the 1080, don't be surprised if most 60 hp Farmalls do just fine. Massey only ever built one good tractor, it was called 35 or 135.

Check out the White 2-105, the John Deere 4230, 4040. The Allis Chalmers 190XT, 200, 7000, 8010. International 966 and 986. All the ones I just listed are roughly 100hp, inexpensive, reliable, and will give you a good start on your search.

I would consider an IH 856 or a JD 4230. Both have around 90 HP give or take a few and are very reliable.
