A highschool acquaintance got bit by a coperhead in a bale first cutting. Northeastern KS. The farmer paid him until he could hire out again. Then, I considered it a paid vacation.

if it was my father he would have put all the equipment up for sale that very moment the snake was noticed. Me on the other hand would have called someone over to throw that particular bale because my "allergies" are getting to me. LOL

Whoa, must have misread or read to quickly or some darned thing, LOL, not much you can do there, but help him out of his misery, but sometimes when people do it for no reason, hard to figure why, again don't mind me, always liked all the critters, except the mice chewin my wires !

I know the poisonous ones are one thing, but did it actually survive the baling process ? Surprised if it did, it looks like a corn snake, which are harmless and one of the most docile snakes there is, we have them all over here, they follow the mice, and do a number on their population, I welcome them here.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of people hate snakes for one reason or the other, some due to their venom and because they are very dangerous, which makes good sense, but I can't see killing something like a corn snake ( looks like one in the photo ) just because its a snake and all snakes need to die beacause they're snakes, if that makes any sense.

Reminds me of the people who torment the snapping turtles when on land because they are bad tempered and react harshly to being poked at. Most times they are headed to lay eggs or moving to another pond and get interrupted.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to stir the pot here or anything to start trouble, each to his own, but I kinda stick up for the critters when I can around here, been an avid hunter and outdoorsman for years.

That used to be a common happening 40 years ago in this area with the square bales. Was lots of fun to grab one of the bales and throw it on the wagon so it landed against the stackers leg with the snake up, while yelling SNAKE. One of the "townys" that was on the wagon jumped clear off the other side once.

And stink if not got out of bale. Last year I had lots of them I pulled out of bales (not rattlers we dont have any) but the hay buyer said they got some out as they fed and they stunk bad. I did tell them about the snakes.
