Here' the deal,

Everything was going just fine 'til about 4 o'clock when I broke two chains on the sled. So, naturally, I just quit and came home; I'll get the rest of it another day. This is a holiday, ya know!

However, the old Lehman sled made that 686 beller a little black smoke most of the afternoon. :>)

Like Paul said those were for compresed stacks only originally. I tried the same idea few years back byt the chains were not very good on the strings which shows up in the last bale also in your picture, definately a n no for net wraps. However I do use sme type unit for small squares and it really works slikc after modified. Your unit is larger, what is dimension of the unit would like to convert more off them. Your not using the cable with yours are you by the way the last bale looks,it reall would help for what yu doing.

They don't handle round bales like that around here, only stacks on that type of wagon. Never even woulda tried that..... Interesting.

What size bales are those?

Mornin' Paul,

They are really "old hat" around here anymore also. Big boys have all gone to the lift arm type single row sled, but there are still a few of these things around.

The tricky part is gettin' the stack loaded without pulling it apart. Gotta keep a lot of reverse pressure on those front bales to push 'em back as they come up.

I dunno, my baler manual says it builds a 5X5 bale. They sure don't look like it to me and seem small in comparison to the new balers of today, tho. All I know is that the chamber measures 4.9 feet across and I pack it till just before the pickup shear-pin breaks. :>)

I was thinking maybe I should get a bigger baler for next year until I grabbed on to one of the little darlin's. If I get a bigger baler, I'll need a bigger loader too. Those suckers are heavy and really make the old Farmhand grunt.

Look at the "bow" in the sled's running gear. Maybe that's why she poped the chains? Loaded, it is all that 686 wants 'cause the tail really tries to wag the dog. Black smoke just rolled out of 'er. :>(

I make 5x6 bales with my old Vermeer. One bale makes the front end pretty light with a 3pt lift. I don't think I can afford the loader that would lift mine. :) Never weighed one, 1600lbs maybe?

You have 11 bales on 2 axles. That is a pretty good load, even if they are only 1200lbs!

Hello Allan, I love the pics you have been posting. I always like to see those tractors blow some smoke when working. Good feeling. Have fun with the bails. Don't get to hot out there. Darin

Afternoon Allan

Looks like it was going OK for awhile.

How many bales did that 46 acres produce?

What size bales are those?

Just full of questions ain't I.

Gary

Mornin' Gary,

One bale per acre. We're really in the big time now! :>)

I've got one more stack to move; probably be quicker to just haul the things into the yard with the three-point. Just haven't got time to stop and fix that sled.

Darned summer fallow is overrun with weeds and I gotta get after that, plus I've got two guys wanting me to help 'em bale their hay. :>(
