Got this old 845 chainer going and baled up a few this weekend and noticed those little metal curved flipper plates on the floor in the back of the baler that are supposed to start the bale rolling so the chain can get hold of it were broke off and all but two or three were clear gone. Loses a little hay once in awhile. Called the dealer place that can order such a thing. HOLY CRAPOLA Just a touch over $400 smakeroos. I tell you what, with my old baler, in my old hayfield, with my old cows, it's just gonna keep losing a little hay. There ain't ten pounds of metal in those things altogether. Just ain't right. Mornin' Harley,

Heard someone say yesterday that they dropped $60K on a planter. $60K for a planter?

Well, come on now. I don't care if the thing is 100' feet wide and wipes ya in the morning, that not only isn't right, it isn't even rational. :>)

Could a feller make those little flippers out of a chunk of a light-duty rear axle spring leaf? All they do is "lift" the fist bite of hay so that the chain can "grab" it anyway?

Humidity here is up to 77% this morning. However, if I see any "drippin's" coming out the bottom of the baler, I'm gonna cross my fingers and close that silly rock door. Never run one that way, but think it is worth a shot. :>)

If you think that's expensive, try going to John Deere's website and configuring an even biger one. That must have been auful small, seeing as how the fellow that farms above us paid about 150000 for his new JD 32 row. Ain't no way to make it as a smaller farmer anymore... gone on to bigger and better.

I'd like to have a new baler, but think I'll get a "new old one".

I can beat your price by $31,900. He, he.

Na, they are like 12 guage spring steel. They have to flatten out when the thing kicks the bale out the back, then they spring back up. They"re just not gonna be there. Somehow I don"t think the girls are ever gonna know the difference. Just thought it was pretty stiff for those small pieces. Good luck today Harley

Harley you think thats bad, I have a 116 J.D. baler one of the first balers and it works like a champ baled over 2000 bales with it last year with out a hitch, I puchased 8 boxes of wire 2 years ago and another 8 a year previous to that, I cant remember what I paid for the first 8 but the second 8 cost $23,00 and I cried about that. Knowing the price of wire was going up I bought an old string baler in the dead of winter for a little of nothing, I have been working on it, and wanted to try it out so I needed twine, when I bought my twine the wire was next to it on another pallet, with a sign $65.00 per box, it takes 4 boxes to load my baler! I believe with the fuel prices and all else,we are going to have to be more inventive and self sufficient than we have ever been in the past!
