My 1 ton, 2001, at very low speeds sometimes sounds and acts like it is missing. No power and white smoke out the exhaust. As soon as it quits the missing, smoking also stops, and power is back to normal. Can cruise all day at 70 pulling a trailer with no problems. Just at speeds like when I am taking off, and not accelerating hard. What could this be ???

Recently my Dodge Cummins started putting out gobs of white smoke. It would idle fine, but just crack throttle and it would sound like a V 8 with a cracked distributor cap and gobs of white smoke. The trouble was the inlector pump had slipped time. This trouble came on while I was smoking a Powerjoke, at 95MPH I hads him beat by 100 yards, I shut the Dodge down and the Ford went around me, didn^t even stop to see what was the trouble.

Sam,
Don't know what part of the country your in, but call Jim Jessup in North Vernon Indiana.
812-873-7618
He's retired from Cummins and can make a B series engine do a dance.
Darn good man to know and visit.

Problem cleared out and keep getting better in running about 100 or more miles. Back two injectors were parsel stop up I keep thinking I had tubro problems.

Black smoke is fuel Blue smoke is oil White smoke is water. Is it using any antifreeze?? Headgasket might be leaking when cold and sealing when warmed up.
Could be about six other problems. I see from your other post it also has low power? Need more info.
miles, oil usage, etc

Better check your transfer pump for propper output pressure to the injection pump. Now since that is one of them electronic engines it would be in your best interests to have it pluged into the putter and see if it is kicking any trouble codes , this may get into the pocket book.

White smoke is unburnt fuel. Some cold engines spit out white smoke 'till they warm up. Could also be caused by bad injectors, not a nice even mist but a hose like squirt. Whey you work it harder it is hot enough to burn the fuel and eliminate the smoke but still not running correctly. I'd lean towards the injectors.

Unburnt fuel would be black. White smoke is from water or a lean fuel setting

Depends on how you look at it. A cold engine puffs white smoke due to insufficient heat to burn it. An engine with a really bad injector will do the same. I guess I should have said white smoke is raw fuel coming out the exhaust. Black smoke is from not enough air for the amount of fuel, usually in a turboed engine where the turbo isn't up to speed yet. I guess we were both correct.
