Hi You Guys!

I'll be the first to admit that I work the snot out of my old truck; I crowd it and I make 'er work for a livin'.

But, have any of you had to buy a set of farm tires lately? That little expenditure will about rattle your teeth! Heck, a set of tractor tires are cheaper!

Darned thing had brand new tires on it a year ago when I bought the truck too; just lighter duty, I guess, 'cause they sure didn't last with the way I beat the old dogger around.

Tire dealer promised me 3 years out of 'em. We'll see. Don't think he knows where I live and how I push this thing. :>(

My 2000 S-10 ZR2 takes those big high-profile tires. I believe they're only 15 inchers. I try and go real easy on em around corners and stopping and starting. The thing has limited slip differentials on front and back so I can hear money burning when I turn slowly on pavement. I can already see some major wear on the inside of the fronts from turning. I'm afraid to go price them.

ALLEN, I've been getting mine in Edgemont SD. $50.00 each for recaps.Have never lost a cap and been getting 50 to 60.000 miles on a set. On my third set with my one ton ford. Can't think of the name of that place, but i'll look it up when I get to the shop.

Not me man. I am the junk yard shopper for my truck. When I burn out a tire. I run to the junk yard find another. They sell the non matched singles for $25 mounted. None of mine match.

I was in a good mood, you just had to remind me... LOL.. I need to put tires on the dually in the next week or so.. In the past, I have always gotten the best deal on Michelins at Sam's Club. They are straight up on prices.. the price they give is "Out the door" Sears is the worst.. They run ads that look like a good buy, but by the time they add 5 or 6 charges to each tire, they are the most expensive place to buy tires..

Now, now let"s not get real hasty here. And please don"t shoot the messenger. The really sad news is that we are setting for another round of price increases starting next month. Tires are made mostly of oil you know.

Looks like a set of LT265/75R16 LRE Cooper Discoverer's. I would guess them right at about $180.00 ea. installed. The price of tires has been going up dramatically the last 2 years. I hope they work well for you, I would think they would be a very good choice, if you travel a lot of gravel roads. JohnG

Hi John,

Yes, I told the guy that I needed heavy service tires, but that I still had to roll down the road from time to time pulling a trailer.

After paying the governor, disposial fees, etc., the 4 tires had cost me $849 by the time I drove out of the shop. Supposed to be 14 ply tires, I guess.

Really took me aback when the pickup tires cost more than the set of tires for my tractor. :>(

No what you mean about tires prices. I bought a 1984 Dodge D50 4X4 five years ago for $800.00 and have put a set and a half on it in 80K miles. I run LT237/75R15's 6 ply @120.00 per tire, thats almost what I paid for the little beast originally. Now I need two more for the front which will bring the grand total up to $960.00 just for tires alone. WTF

Not sure what you spent there. Every time I wear out a set on the C3500 it a grand down the tubes. I normally get about 35 to 40 k out of them.

I hate buying tires.

Tires are kinda spendy these days! I spent $265 for a set of 4 on my little del Sol (175/70R13) and those were just the mid-range tires - top of the line would have cost around $400!

I shudder to think what it's going to cost to put the 15 inchers on the Accord... or the heavy duty 16 inch tires on my old Binder!

The little sidekick we have has put 100K on a set of used tires I took off a truck I bought in 1996 and they still look about new. They had a few thousand on them back then.

The little subaru justy we used to have ate a set of 165/65 R13's every 30K and it died with over 360K on it. The thing cost way more in tires than gas lol.
