We have a 1947 WC Allis Chalmers that we just replaced the radiator and hoses on. We cannot get the upper (water pump side) connection to seal. We have tried using two high torque hose clamps (4x the clamping strength of a standard hose clamp) but still cannot get it to stop. We even installed a longer hose with and little bit of Permatex 'Form-a gasket' sealant, but that did not work either. The leak is not bad - it just slowly seeps out. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Chuck and Mike.

Sure it's at the hose, and not the gasket between the back plate and the housing? Mine was that gasket. Took the water pump off, took it apart snd cleaned it up, replaced the gasket (adding No.2 Permatex), put it back together haven't lost a drop since. And then again, maybe you have a crack in the casting.

You have a leak, so I'd pull the water pump and inspect it. It isn't hard, couple of hours tops.

If you take the water pump off, try to take the fan and pulley off as one piece (they are two seperate pieces). If you have to take them apart (fan and pulley) to get the pulley off of the water pump, be careful of the two bolts for adjusting/holding the fan's sleave to the pulley. They're old and break easy. If you do loosen them, I'd pickup and replace them with a couple bolts from the hardware store (are like 1/4" diameter x 1/2" long). Be careful not to lose the locks for those two bolts. Those two bolts are what adjusts and locks the fan/sleave onto the pulley, so the fan doesn't come loose and adjust itself outward into the radiator when the engine's running. It really is a simple task. Just take your time.

Did you clean off all the corrosion on the metal? If not it will seep through where it is no longer "round" If the metal is pitted, clean it, bondo it and when nicely hard and sanded, refit the hose.

I have a 41 just like it. I Put a new clamp on it and, it still leakes. I just fill up rad every time I use it.

Engine side or rad. side?? If its the engine side you could have a cracked part and if so you will never get it to stop with out replaceing the part
