Planting Bermuda grass

Looking for suggestions on how to plant some bermuda grass. We're going to be planting roughly an acre. The ground has been destumped, limed and fertilized. The final prep before planting will be running the box blade over it to loosen it up some.

From what I've read bermuda grass should be planted something like 1/2 inch into the ground. After spreading the bermuda would running the box blade over the ground again be sufficient?

The only implement I have to work with is the box plade. Also, the spreader is a 36 inch wide unit. I'm not real sure how to set it up for spreading bermuda. I assume I want to make the openings as small as possible.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Brad

Last time I planted grass seed I drug it in with an old set of bed springs which I found along the road.

Thanks for all the feedback. For simplicity sake I'll just spread the seed and water. The land is fairly flat so run off shouldn't be a bit problem. We are expecting rain late monday so I'll spread the seed today and water in the morning.

Thanks again,

Brad

A 4' pallet or skid works well. I use one to break up cores after areation and seeding of my lawn in fall. $0.02

I've had good luck just spreading it on top of soft ground and watering it in. You really don't want that small a seed too deep.

Hi ,Years back when I did that for a living,I used to drag a long(30ft.) log chain over it to put the seed in the ground. Jim in N M

I don't think I would use that box blade to work in the seed.

It will drag it around and streak the stand.

Try to find somone to drill it for you.

Or find a drag harrow to go over it a couple of times after spreading it with the seeder.

Just my opinion. Gary

Yep - what IaGary said... You could make a drag out of about anything, but I wouldn't use the box blade.

Bermuda grass seed are so small that any covering effort will likely put most of them too deep to emerge, I would only water them in to keep from over covering.
