David, Just a couple of points. The Dexta engine was made at Dagenham and assembled by Perkins. It was a Ford designed unit in association with Perkins. It was not a true Perkins engine! It's a red rag to a bull to all old Fordson fitters to call it a Perkins :0). Ford made Prkins grind all the casting marks that said "Perkins" off the few aprts that they provided. Petrol dexta's are not all that rare. There are lots around in both Europe, America and Canada. Ther also seem to be quite a few in Ireland. We just did not see them over here. In fact I drive one on a regular basis ploughing quite close to you and I shall be driving it again next Sunday on a road run at Ludlow. The engine is a Standard Motor Company industrial unit which is a different beast to the Standard engine in the TE20 although a lot of the parts are the same. My old company sold a petrol Dexta from Boreham to a local horticultural enterprise along with a few other "experimental" units like L4 E1ADDN's and petrol E1ADN's when Boreham cleared their stocks for the introduction of the New Performance Range in the early 1960's. Wish I had been in the finacial position to buy a couple of these at the time.
