Hi Gang;
All vehicles used on roads has to be registered, and the number plate displayed. That registration number stays with that vehicle all its life until its scrapped.
The annual road tax varies on the type of vehicle and now on the emmisions the engine produces, higher means more money !
Tractors have to be road registered, display a plate and have a tax disc - but its free.
You can pay to have the number plate on a vehicle you own transfered to a new vehicle (the donor vehicle then gets issued with a previously un-issued number of that period.
Also large numbers of early numbers were never issed because there were not the vehicles used. So you can buy an old unused number at a price!
If you have a tractor thats "lost" its original number you can apply for a number from the age of the tractor, you need photos & written proof of the age of the tractor (from serial & casting numbers) verified by an antique tractor club.
All vehicles have to be insured whether on the road or used off the road or just stored.
Cheers David
