Gettin' Old :(

Hi Guys,

Strapped the duals on the big tractor late last night for dark 'cause I gotta go out and do battle with the weeds today. Neighbors have been done for 2 or 3 days now and mine are getting knee high.

Anyway, those darned things are gettin' heavier every time I wrestle 'em. Gotta figure a way to put a zipper on 'em.

Okay now, where's my gloves? I'm going out to slice thru some ground and burn a little diesel fuel. :>)

Allan

Go to www.bradleyauctionsinc.com

Sale on August 22 in Ottowa IL, just off I80.

They have a red one with cab and duals. A few others also. Maybe can get a couple.

Allan, if I remember right you have the clamp on style duals right? If you can find some of the axle mount duals they are alot easier to put on and off. Last year I built this tool to put the axle type duals on, the tires cost me like $7 each at a farm supply store and the frame was built out of scrap metal. With it and a cordless impact wrench I can put a set of axle mount duals on a tractor by myself in less than five minutes and never do any hard work. With the dual riding on the tires you can spin it with one hand to line up the holes and the tires won't scratch the paint either.

As you can see from a skid steer loader you can see to line the holes up pretty good, with a tractor loader it would be harder but still easier than handling them by hand.

Cliff that is just too cool. There is just no end of things we can invent, create, or modify because we just plain can't or get tired of lifting 300-400pounds by hand anymore. Harley

Cliff:

That's a very clever set up. Farmers are the smartest people on the planet, almost. We should be ruling the world.

Yep, I know how you feel. I'm only 16, and those durn things are heavy and really do fight back. As I type this, 'tis raining in SE OH, so it's another day of getting nothing really useful done. Have fun burning fuel, and be safe.

Johndeeregreen, Thank you for that. I was thinking maybe it was just getting older that made those parts seem heavier, but thanks to you, I am now convinced that it isn't me getting weaker, it is the parts that are getting heavier.

Nope, it's not just you. We do it with a loader tractor and it's still not very easy. I can't imagine having to do everything by hand. It would probably take about 5 men and a boy to keep from getting smashed. Still beats lots of other farm chores, though. :)

It appears that the earth's gravitational force is also getting stronger. I notice the effects on my body, both in appearance and in my ability to move it around. In case the Mrs. might read this post, I will state, for the record, that it doesn't seem to be having the same effect on her.

I honestly think the solution to this whole problem is to find another big tractor so that I can just leave the darned duals on this one year around.

Now, doesn't that make sense? :>)

Yep. But will the wife buy that excuse?

On second thought, you could use the reasoning that you're getting older (no offense) and can't risk getting hurt. After all, you've gotta help take care of those converters. :):)

The amount of tractors you have why are you taking them off then. Or is that the unit you use to mow hay with even then you would just need take off the one

Sounds like a plan to me, have a tractor for EVERY job, then it is a matter of just getting on the one to get 'er done.

From now 'til the tail end of August, it's gonna be a cooker.

Comes with the turf. :>)
