Ben I purchached a Shafer 10" I've been offered my money back several times and declined a farmer shouldn't be without one, they will put a post down in some pretty tough places. If I get one off a little, I spin the tractor around and butt the weights up against the post and tamp a wedge in to hold it.I cary a level on the tractor with me when I'm fencing.I've been told the 12" is so powerful that they will break the springs, and the eight inch is just to small in tough ground. Word of caution for some unknown reason people have a tendency to put there fingers on top of post, and that is disasterous to fingers so watch it Gman

I tried one two years ago; gave up on it after about 10 - 12 line posts. Got out the old post hole auger and got on with setting line posts. The pounder just would not drive the posts straight; they looked like toothpicks sticking out of a shot glass. Best advice I can give you is, rent one and try it before you buy it! Who knows, you might like it!
