There's a property near me that makes me sad. Many, many, pieces of old iron and cars, a giant antique crane, and a vacant, run-down old house and buildings to boot. They recently had a fire and lost a Super M-TA and it's pull-type mower. I oughtta go stick a note on the door for whoever finds it next that reads something like this: "I'll give ya $50,000 for the whole place, iron and all." Because it seems that place is a burden to whoever owns it. Oh well, their property. It stills makes my blood boil though.

in-too-deep, Go the Apprasial Distric in your area, look at the local map of that area an you can get the name and address of the owner or executor were the tax bill is sent, Then Google the local white pages for a telephone # and away you go. Good Luck.

i knew of man like that . when the stuff was sold cars, trucks , tractors and machinery most of it went for scrap as was to far gone to be salvaged .

I am amazed by the number of people that feel that it is a mans obligation to sell his iron once the day comes when he can no longer use it or keep it in repair. It may be that some guys just enjoy looking at some of the iron that helped them get through life. If the place is anything but beachfront property in Arizona all you did was insult them with an offer that hardly buys a pickup today. Usually if someone wants to sell something they put a sign on it that reads FOR SALE.

It seems to be a pretty well defined problem

I had a family member that did that. 40 cars (about 6 intersting antiques that might be worth something, and 34 that were just junk) Tons of old riding mowers and push mowers. This guy's main hobby was dumpster diving.

And yeah, its sad when someone like that passes, becasue their heirs are left with the monumental task of getting rid of it all.

My wifes uncle is like that. He has over 100 old tractors, dozers, you name it, he probably has one of everything. Every one has been bought, brought,parked, and well, thats about all they do after they are to his place. He still goes to auctions and buys. I want to buy some from him but he says, "Ahh, I'm gonna fix that up some day" or" I may need that some day" ( for the ones that run). He cant get a job ( health reasons), they have no money to restore any of them, and like I said he has over a hundred of them. They cant afford 2 ply a*s wipe, but he will not sell one darn peice. Some have been sitting in the same spot for 25 years, and they are almost all complete. Wife ays her sides kinda weird that way, no kidding, YA THINK! I want to run out there and bring some sweet corn, that way the wife can visit (HA HA), and I can get an inventory of what he all has. Maybe if I offer him a very large sum for everything he would bite, but I will bet my lucky dollar that if he dies next week his kids will call the scrap man. I'll have to take a pic of his tractor pasture next time I am out that way.

Yep! Guy lives up the road from me is like that! Wont sell anything, and would rather it rust away than sell it now while hes alive and could enjoy the money or bay some bills. Thats ok though, I know the day will come when hes dead and gone and his kids will get my money!

I hope I live long enough and in good enough health to know when to say when...

And slowly sell off my stuff and downsize, etc.

You see so many properties that have gotten well ahead of the owners, and others that end up lanquishing in probate or other family squabbles...or the family has unrealistic expectations of the value of the property.
