O/T log cabin house

For used log homes, I'd find a local company that builds them and find out how reliable they are by calling some of their customers. Like any other business, some are more trustworthy than others. If you go the used route, I would hire that company to inspect the home to see if it's been maintained and have them check the condition of the logs. A regular home inspector can do the rest of the home. Logs can be replaced if rotted, but if properly maintained, a log home will as long or longer than a stick built. Good luck

My wife and I have lived in a log home for the past 13 years and I wouldn't do anything else. Like tractors, so much depends on how it was made and how it was maintained over the years. The amount of maintainence depends on how it was constructed. I would suggest you pick up a copy of Log Home Living magazine and start reading through a few copies, your head will spin, but you will have an idea of what your looking at and why some are so much more expensive than others. Good luck with your search, you have to live in one for awhile to appreciate what everyone else misses out on..
