We are in the middle of a serious drought here in Wisconsin. No significant rainfall since the middle of May. Feels like out west around here. Dust everywhere. Fields are all brown, like they've been sprayed with Roundup. First crop hay was 50% below normal, although quality is good. Doesn't look like their will be any second or third crop. All the rain must have ended up in the northeast.

Visited with a farmer from out in that "red bulls-eye" area of north central South Dakota yesterday. He said that walking through his fields and pastures sounds just like "stepping on potato chips"!

don't feel like it is only you in a droughty situation. here in some parts of se texas we had NOT had any siginificant rainfall since last september(2005). we are several inches below normal rainfall and a lot of the ponds and creeks are still dry. some ranchers/farmers are already feeding what little hay there is.

We have had more than 2 inches in past week. While I wished it fell on a mowed field I held off because I was afraid of burning it after it was cut. Next door the alfalfa looks pretty good. They have taken two cuttings so far. Temps have eased some and less humid. Warmer days and cooler nights with this current rain should bring the grasses back. Corn does not look bad in my area. Most is 5 foot or more, all green and has tasseled. Water tables are way down. The pond next door is all but dried up. Lake properties down the road have a lot of shoreline showing. Pretty soon point wells will begin to cavitate and create problems. For me I am the only well for at least 1/2 mile so hope not to have any problems. Time will tell. More excessive heat out west (110 F) on Sunday, could be headed this way.

Don't feel bad here in Missouri we are about 13-15 inches behind in rain for the last 18 months. Seems to be the whole midwest haveing the problem with lack of rain

Humidity here is 54 percent, dew point 56 with temp of 70 degrees. Supposed to be cooler today--only 94. With all that humidity for some reason, it just can't rain. My rain for the year has been one tenth, one half, and one tenth. We are kind of used to it, but Wisconsin? that must be hard to take. Just heard they are dieing in Calif from heat.

We have had only four 2 day periods of sun without rain since May. 1/2 our hay got rained on and sat out a week, we still have about 4000 small square bales to cut and bring in between us and our neighbour.

We get a nice sunny day then it ends with 1/2-1 inch of rain, rinse repeat then a stretch of cloudy and rainy days.

Ken
