I feel for you guys that are short of moister.

If trucking weren't so high we could probably help you guys out with hay from this area.

I've talked to a few neighbors and every one has enough hay but not much demand around here.

We can't give away but not looking to retire on the profit either.

Trucking over 500 miles would be more than $65 dollars a ton just for the trucking.

Not blaming the truckers they have expenses also.

Any ideas on how to get it there economically?

Gary

Gary,
I just talked to Dawn (from the N board)She said that western nebraska is in bad need of hay and that they have set up a hay hotline. Give them a call and see if you can "make a deal" with them.

I am in east central Missouri, and we have had pretty good moisture all year so far. Just got a decent second cutting off of orchard grass/fescue/clover mix. Lots of people saying hays gonna be short though. I have plenty. I bale rounds for our own horses and cows, and I bale small squares that my wife and my mother use in their horse boarding operation which consists of about 40-50 head at any given time.

Here in SD, trucking is running about $4.40 per loaded mile on full loads.

Hello Case Lady

I'm here in eastern Iowa between Ia City and Cedar Rapids.

My bales are twine wrapped 1500 pound rounds.

Third cutting could be baled as desired.

Gary; really you have no demand for selling hay,I can't get enough to keep up,course I suppose yours are all large rounds, that makes a big difference although I am sold out of those also and need more. If it is large rounds they must be net wrapped thou.

Just south of Iowa City I am seeing small squares for anywhere from $1.50 to $3.50 advertised.

Thats right but are they selling?

And I would not little square bale for $1.50 per bale unless the buyer would load them in the field or provide all the labor.
