Put a "Thule" roof rack on my '92 beater Volvo. Traded a weeks worth of feeding a friend's dogs for it.Haven't been driving much, but thought my mileage was way off...proved it this week. I'm talking like a 30% hit. I can't believe the rack or the windscreen for the rack could do that, but need to rule it out the rack. So this morning, I pulled off the "windscreen" to see if that would make a difference, and drove to the town north of me for a coffee...that's about 15 miles round trip, so it would be a good test. Got the coffee. Pull out the parking lot. Cruising down the highway...engine revs up...overdrive lock-out light goes on in the dash. Now I occassionally hit the button by mistake... Play with the button, wiggle & jiggle, nope, no good. Kind of tough to test your gas mileage when the gosh darn car is locking out the highest gear! I've already had to operate on the neutral safety switch, looks like the Chilton's with the wiring diagram has to come out tomorrow mornin' :)
