I have a tractor that needs a new home. The problem is it's A-a Fordson super major '63 model, a good tractor but not very popular herebouts and B-it is apart because of the crankshaft.
The crank rod and main journals will "turn out" at .010-.010 but the rear thrust surface is worn more than .050 beyond specs. Buying a new crank (and every thing else that it needs for an engine rebuild) will put my dollar investment beyond what the tractor is worth. The crank is the "tie breaker' here.
Some people have advised me to fab up some thurst washer spacers bolt it back together and sell it. Now I can't claim to be the world's finest feller, but I will not sell someone a "ticking bomb" just waiting to blow up.
Any advice? Ideas? Is this spacer deal as bad as I'm afraid it is?

Thanks for the help guys. I've been out working all day and just got in. So I haven't responded to all my Email. 16 hours in the Alabama sun doing manual labor is hard on an old man.
Tomorrow I'll google up the info you guys gave me, and see what I can find.
Thought about that spacer deal a lot today and I just ain't gonna do it.

and old- the letter B was to note the second point I was trying to make- the tractor is a Fordson Super Major. I thank you for the offer you made any ways.

I have a Power Major ( same engine ) and I bought a new crank from bare-co last year for around 250$US. You can also get a full rebuild kit from them also.

There web site is bare-co.com

You can order from moore tractor out of california. You can google for there contact info.

It will depend on how much you have invested already, but a complete engine kit including the crankshaft is not that expensive. Check around (including this site). I may be able to help, if you don't find anything e-mail me and I'll see what I can do.

Have you checked with your local machine shop? I have seen cranks built up with weld and turned back down. I think there is a better option here. Call around and see if you have any repair shops in your area that can perform this.

Good Luck Aaron

I'd also check with some local tractor salvage yards to see what they would give you for it as-is.

The only one around here said he didn't want it at $500.00 and I offered to deliver it. Scrap man offered .03 per pound. The clutch assy is new (less than 5 hrs use) and it cost $507.00 plus shipping. The tractor also has power steering.
My 3930 sits out in the weather because the major is taking up all available shed space.

First of what type of B is it?? JD, Farmall, Allis?? Now with that said I know theres a good number of people even on this site that would probably have a crank laying around that you could get for less then a lot of other places. Shoot I have 2 cranks for a B. 2 for that allis B/C and one that is still in a Farmall B. So if you look around enough you can find the parts you need
