So are there any side affects of using LSD that are heard of yet?
All I heard is that it might make 1 % less fuel economy.
Are there any things we should be watching for?

What about ULSD (Ultra Low)?

Thanks

There is now a lubricity standard that diesel fuel must meet , it is met by additives in the fuel . My oil man tells me that the ultra low sulfur fuel (ULSD) has been coming thru for a while now as the suppliers have to get tanks, pipelines etc flushed out of low sulfur diesel before the deadline. Everyone should know that these fuel requirements are only for on-road undyed fuel and not off road YET.Thats not sayng that you could'nt get some ULSD with dye in it for off road fuel.

Last time I had an old fuel pump rebuilt, the mechanics told me to look for that kind of fuel with less sulfur. His opinion was that sulfur wears the injector faster. He recommended fuel additives to lubricates the injectors.

I read somewhere on the interent and can not get fuel supplier to confirm or deny this, new low sulfer fuel cannot be stoed long. Low sulfur fuel and aditives they put in it for lubricity etc will not store well at all. Also water will break down all these things (water in oolder high sulfer diesel is bad but wont break down anyting just give running problems. As i said dont know if anyone can shed some light on this

Here's a response to that question by Cummins.

Pretty much says all that needs to be said about that subject. right from "the horse's mouth".

The major factor about fuel with regard to fuel economy is the lower heating value(LHV) of the fuel. That's a measure of it's energy content per gallon (BTU's /gallon) and is controlled by specification. To my knowledge this has not changed with any of the low sulfur fuels nor will it change with Ultra low sulfur.Wear in the injectors is another issue. Much has been made about lubricity changes due to the process of manufacturing low sulfur fuels and as I understand it this has been dealt with by additive packages in the fuel.

The process that removes the sulfur is said to also remove some long chain hydrocarbons that provide lubrication to injection pumps. This may be fact or myth but the same process is sure to raise the price!

Are you just looking for something to worry about???

Let's face, the new fuels are a fact of life, and aren't going to go away, and probably won't cause any problems, anyway.

It is making the fuel pumps leak at the throttle shaft on the old mechanical pumps, and making the O rings leak on the transfer pump on the new electronic (E C M ) engines. Work in a shop with 166 Diesel engines in class 8 trucks

I can believe it. I had a 6.2 that would leak no.1 fuel around the throttle shaft but switch back to no.2 and it was fine.
