I noticed a few messages already about the three point hydraulics on a Long 560. From what I can tell, the hydraulics and the transmission (gearbox) all use the same oil. Is this true? What kind of oil should I use? I am used to using 80/90 weight in a manual transmission, but I don't think this will work well in a hydraulic system. Someone wrote in my manual to use 20/40 weight, but this seemed to light for a manual transmission. Any insight or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the comments. I think my tractor was built in the mid 70's. I am not sure. From what I have read, it seems that motor oil or hy trans will work. I have 10 gallons of UTH (which I think is the same as hy trans) but I think I will go with the motor oil option. It seems more economical.

Thanks again for the comments. This is my first tractor and welcome any additional comments or suggestions. I never realized how different tractors were from auto's or trucks. It has definitely been a learning experience.

The last oil change in my 445 was in the spring. I used seafoam for a couple of weeks in the old oil before changing. It really helped to get the moisture and gunk out of the system. The replacement oil I used was the R and O oil from Autozone. It has worked great.

I have several of the Fiat built Longs,Olivers and ACs and I change the trans fluid in every one of them when I first get them and I use John Deere Hyguard hydraulic oil the only thing I buy from John Deere but have always had good luck with their Hydraulic oil.

Some of the first Longs used gear oil(90wt). Have a neighbor that has a 75 or 76 year model and it uses 30 wt. motor oil. I have a 98 (yr) and I use hy-trans. I started out with, I think 134 NH. I've since switched to Amsoil 5-30 hydraulic/transmission oil. The Amsoil is expensive but it ended some sticking valve problems. So it's worth the price to me. Amsoil's been in it for 6 years now and no more problems with the hydraulics.

My Long 360 manual says to use 10w-40, I am not kidding. I actually use the hydraulic oil that is for Caterpillar, etc. the lower priced brands. Mine holds 24 quarts, if I remember correctly. 6 gallons. I did build a drain pan out of 16 gage steel that will hold 7 gallons so that I could do a neat change job. Yours might hold more.

I have a 660 diesel and the transmission and hydraulics use the same oil, Case Hy-Tran, there are some generic oils that will do, and they are less expensive. Also make sure you change the filter and clean the screen it is located on the right hand side of the transmission.

I changed the transfluid in my IH-H once, it took 5 or 6 gallons, dont remember. But it was hytran fluid I think. My autoparts store had it then. More guys will chime in on this I think.
