I have this "friend", Pete, I've known since the 9th grade. He has a really annoying dog (Buster) that has caused lots of trouble around her. Last Fall he killed one of our chickens. We told Pete that the dog does not leave the car when he is here. Since, there have been several times where he opens the door for Buster RIGHT IN FRONT OF US and lets him out. When we tell him to put him back in the car he gets mad and drives off. Last evening (7-ish) Pete stopped by for a few minutes (never even got out of the car). When he started the car to leave, Buster jumped out of the open window and chased down one of the cats. I beaned the dog with my cane, but missed being able to grab him. Pete got him in the car and high-tailed it out of here. Four hours later the cat died. I e-mailed Pete about it and told him "DO NOT bring Buster back on the place". In return I got a nasty e-mail blaming me and the cat and absolving Buster of the whole thing ("Buster knows what to do with a cat"). He said that he would no longer "communicate" with either my wife nor I. To me, it's just like a parent who's child can do no wrong. I'm fed up with the dog (there is a LONG history of this dog and trouble - including an incident with a 3 tier block wall). My wife told me that she's sorry that I lost a friend. I told her that I didn't - a friend wouldn't act like he has. Sorry for the rant! I just wish people would start taking responsibility for things!

Sounds like Pete's brains are made of the same thing that I deposited in the toilet this morning. You sure didn't loose a freind but you did get rid of a pain in the well, you know what.

An old rock 'n roll song said, "you can't lose a friend you never had."
Most people these days who are willing to take responsibility for their actions either have grey hair or none at all, and that is a sad commentary.
Lack of responsibility, however is not limited to the young-jerks come in all ages.
Sorry 'bout your cat.

So this jerk exfriend (and nasty dog) is no longer communicating or coming over to your house, doesn't sound like a problem to me. Your cat gave it's life to rid you of a pest. Put a marker on it's grave in thanks. Try to cultivate a better grade of friends.

This comment thread fully illustrates the result of a 40+ year effort by multinationalists to undercut the economy of the United States, the crippling and removal of our manufactuing base and the simultanious devaluation of our currency. Good on those of you who do stick with the made in the USA made necessities. Many others have been reduced to not being able to afford to do that for so long now that the younger folks among us have lost any appreciation for what that means. It is not a hopelessly lost situation, but will take a long time to be rectified. I myself routinely search for made in the USA and buy the same when it can be had. Sadly, in many categories, it is just plain not available anymore. This is going absolutely according to plan. "Made-in-the-USA" buyers, keep your chin up...you are doing us all proud.

Well - I told him that if I saw Buster on any part of my 100 acres, I'd shoot him. He's real buddy-buddy with my brother (I'm not) and they both like to spread stories around. Can't wait to see (hear) what they come up with now. My brother lives on the opposite corner of the original 160 acre farm. He quit talking to me when I got chickens because "if you have chickens, you have rats" and they'd all be over at his place. He must be right, cause I ain't seen them here. Getting tired of the whole deal. Beginning to wish I'd bought someplace FAR away from here, instead of the family farm.

Now, before you delete Pete"s email address out of your computer....send him this page. Let public opinion show him that he"s an a$$ and he should be over there apologizing to you and helping you come up with another cat....and a chicken. Fred OH

God bless the poor little furry one"s soul. I have a couple of idiots in the neighborhood and here are some of the ways. DO NOT LET YOUR ANIMALS GET INTO THIS STUFF! ! ! ! Anitfreeze works with squirles and everything else. Next is advil gell caps in a big lump of dog food and freeze it. This way you can tose it over a fence in the dark. The newest one I found out about is the liquid ice turtle wax. Smells like strawberrys and blows out their liver. All of these things are DEADLY to your animals so watch out!!! ! ! ! ! Last of all SSS Shoot shovel and shutup! Jeffcat

Jeffcat if you ever seen a animal die from poison, you would not wish that on your worst emmeny. I don't care how heartless someone is, if you don't have the balls to put the animal down, find someone who does.

I've always found behind a killer dog is a person who encourges those killings, so the dog is pleasing his owner at home but then can't stop killing when he leaves his property.

PS-- T bone this thread has gone too far and is WAY to touchy. In a FAR from perfect world that some day will light up with a new dawn I can only hope that all animals whom have been loved and have loved their owners can join in forever. As I said in my fist reply about you find a better answer, please come up with the ultimate answer. I have none to give. jeffcat

Tbone -I have seen more animals die in more ways than you would want to know. Work with a vet for a few weeks and see how people have to lose their pet cause of some idiot like this guy has as a "friend". Animals that were tortured for "fun" by some stupid kids. Let me know what you think of a neighbor who shoots an arrow through a friends "pet" duck and the animal took about a week to die. Let me know about the illegal leg trap that was set on our property that took the leg of my dad"s dog. You tell me how to do what should be done to bum or rogue animals when you can"t shoot them and the law will not do anything. Let me know how you would feel if you find the body of a kitten in an old metal ammo box floating down the stream that goes through your property. Let me know how you would think when you find the body of a cat that was killed on the hiway and had its paws tied together as it got run over. The law system has made it so you need to do things in the dark and there is no other way. Suffer? Let all of us know how YOU would do it. DO you have the magic pill or the swift sword? We come here to find answers and this subject has come up MANY MANY times on this board. Yes I have seen an animal suffer. Yes I hunt and make one shot one kill and a CLEAN kill. I shoot high power matches and have shot in the nationals. I had to shoot a friends old blind and deef 18 year old dog cause he couldn"t kill his old pet. She would chew through her tie rope and wander around the place and bump into things till someone would find her and tie her up again. Yes I can tell you about seeing heart breaking sights of animals that have suffered and stupid idiot people that should need a license to be allowed to have a pet slug never mind an animal that shows you all of its love. Do you have a solution? Jeffcat

I'm a dog lover, but believe dogs to be the most pampered animals on earth, aside from stock dogs, hunting, and guard dogs, those that work for a living.I would not hesitate to apply the eye for an eye rule when one misbehaves this way.Kill ole Buster in Pete's presence if possible, and tell him "I know what to do with a bad dog".A neighbor down the road had 5 dogs that were mean and worthless,Pit Bulls,he is a OTR trucker whose family didn't always keep them penned when he was away. They jumped our 12 year old Spitz on our property and chewed him up.He lived a week after $175 in Vet bills. It took a month for me to kill them all,he came by and asked if I'd seen them,I told him what they did and what I did.He offered to pay the $175,but never has.

Sorry to hear about the cat... Poor cat minding it's own business, only to be killed by a visiting dog, this pi$$es me off.. As far as your "Friend", I think you are better off without him.. Over the last few years, I have come to realize that some old "Friends" are really not that... I would not want that guy on my property...

I had a freind with a dog like that.A white shepard, nice looking dog.My freind and his girl adopted it from the pound as full grown and I thought it might have been abused.Bit my other freind when he was kickstarting his bike[loud pipes].My buddy insisted the dog was ok with people.Tryed to nip at me or intimidate me a couple occasions and I didnt trust it.One day he comes over and the kids are in the pool and the dog jumps in and just misses biting my grandaughter on the back of the head.Only a few people noticed but I said thats it.Of course in my freinds eyes I was the bad guy.Turns out if you really asked him about it the dog had bitten several other people also.

Ive never put up with dogs that chase livestock, chase cars,or try to bite. They all find the doggie heaven in the sky.Awhile back I was at a fellow tractor enthusiasts house. One of his dogs nipped me while I was there, and he never once hesitated, shot'em right away, must be in tractor folks blood I reckon to just take care of business right away.

Sorry to hear you lost a friend.

And I don't mean Pete.

Personally, if Pete apologized he may be allowed back. But Buster would be shot on sight if he was off leash. The chicken was bad enough. Dogs don't know any better, so the blame ALL lies with Pete. I've trained a larger terrier (Kerry Blue) to live with chickens and cats, but I know better than to trust him with strange chickens or cats in outside situations. The owner is always at fault.

Sorry about your cat. You really haven't lost a friend. Our neighbors let their dogs run loose and bark CONSTANTLY. We've got our windows open tonight, but probably won't be able to get to sleep until we close them. Dog pens smell terrible too. I notice these same dogs had dragged up garbage all over the neighbors yard this morning. Sorry for my rant.

Most people would be remorseful if something like that happened and very apologetic. This guy has no class and if I were you would offer him a permanent vacation from your yard. Stupid dogs need a responsible owner and this guy is obviously a jerk. Tell him if he brings the dog over again Buster is getting the 12 guage. Good luck.

Nope fer sure you didn't lose a friend, sounds like Pete was just trying to yank your chain. If ole Buster had killed one of my chickens it would have been his first and last, sorry to hear about your cat. Sooner or later ole Buster's gonna wind up with a cap.

One of the first things you learn in this neighborhood is that if you let your dog run and it kills anything on my property that I own, something happens to the dog in the next few weeks. Love dogs and always sorry to do it, but people either take the responsibility or I take it for them.
