I am attempting to install a CASE 580CK backhoe onto a Ford 555 industrial loader tractor. After studying the hydraluic diagrams, I discovered that neither the loader valve nor the backhoe gang of valves has power beyond capability. If it was a Ford tractor with a Ford backhoe, the power beyond would be on the backhoe, If it was a CASE 580CK with a CASE backhoe, the power beyond is in the loader valve.

I got blind-sided on this project, and was expecting the power beyond capability on the backhoe gang valves in the same manner as it is on my older CASE 420B backhoe that has been installed on my Massey Ferguson 50A. This set up was easy because I routed the line from the pump to the backhoe, first, then ran the outlet hose to the loader valve on the Massey.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can do to make the Ford tractor/loader compatible with the CASE 580CK backhoe? How does someone plumb two valves in series that neither has power beyond capabilty?

Thanks, in advance.

If neither valve can be converted for power beyond, the best way is to replace the loader valve (having fewer sections than the backhoe valve) with one having power beyond as the option. Anything else is a cobble and may put more pressure on the return part of the valve casting than it can stand. Besides which having pressure rise (from backhoe use) on thee return line of the loader valve could make the cylinders on the loader not move at all. Having separate return and power beyond ports is there for a reason. It works better.

You might be able to add power beyond by buying the appropriate parts. If the valves are not made to accept that, you may be able to get the necessary machining done. I have put power beyond on valves without it by adding the power beyond sleeve in where I had to machine the valve to accept it. I don't know if this can be done on all valves..... .

Yes, both valves are open center on gear pumps. in reply to AmeriKen, 09-08-2006 19:00:59
Yes, both sets of valves are from a gear pump system that required open center spools to allow hydraulic flow when not in use.

Yes, each has an internal relief valve to the single return line.

Yes, without power beyond, I cannot use both the loader and backhoe at the same time.

So can I plumb these two sets in series and have a workable system without splitting hoses or exploding the pump?

Not really a concern. The vital factor is to use open center backhoe valving if the tractor's hydraulics are open center. The valving just all goes in series

To remove the power beyond feature, remove the sleeve that is in the return port and attach the hose directly to the valve. You will need a larger fitting for the larger port.
