hello all...recently i had the keeper clip to break on my 8-n's starter. the keeper, washer and spring ended up falling off and went who knows where? i assume i is resting at the bottom of the starter well (don't know the exact word to use here) and was wondering if i should try to "fish" them out with a flexible wire magnet? or, just live them be and hope they won't bother anything. if i should need to go "fishing" does anyone know the tricks of the trade on doing this? thanks for you time/help.

charles rolla, mo.

I would try to get the parts out. You might get lucky with a small "magnet on a stick", but heres another trick that has worked for me in the past...take a strong magnet (i used a piece of a starter field magnet)stick it to the flywheel, and turn the eng. 360 degrees. Just make sure there is enough clearance between flywheel and bellhousing for your magnet to make the trip. Good luck. Greg (near Owensville)

I would still give the old college try, might get lucky. But if you dont find it, Old is right its plenty big and with a little old oil and grease in that area thay probably found a safe happy home.

Hey your just down the road from me. As far as them parts the bell houseing on the 8Ns is made so them parts will just lay in the bottom and be ok where they are. They made the bell houseing bigger then it need to be and because of that the parts are ok to leave in there.

That would be the bell housing. If it was me I'd want to get them out. They could get picked up by the flywheel, jam and break something.
