Hi Gang;
I know this is off topic, but do any of you like CSN&Y ?
Ive loved their music since Buffalo Springfield. Finally got to see CSN live in concert earlier this year during their British tour. Unbelievable experience - even my wife (finally) appreciated their music.
Heard that Neil Young is going to have brain surgury - whats happening? Appreciate your comments & emails,

I've been to three live concerts in my life. The Beatles in Minneapolis in 1965 (I think tickets were around $9.00), Johnny Cash in Fargo in 1966, and Frank Zappa at the Winnipeg Fairgrounds in 1970.
I'll be content to consider myself well-rounded with this much cultural exposure.☺☺☺

Would have really liked to see the Beatles. In 65 I believe they played in Cleveland, which was only 150 miles away. However only being 14 and not driving made it impossible. But got to see Hendrix, Doors, Led Zep, Cream, and several others including one of my all time quirky favorities, Canned Heat. Originally wanted to see the Stones, but lost interest in them over the years. If you could go back to the late 60's I'd be standing in line to buy a ticket.

Yes, I like them. Saw the in concert in Houston in the early to mid eighties. Too stoned back then to remember clearly, clean and sober now and still like their music. Southern Cross is my favorite. Was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

Oh yeah - they have LOTS of great songs! I think that "Southern Cross" has gotta be my favorite, though.

I have any number of albums by the various arrangements of folks.
And I saw Buffalo Springfield in concert in April? of 1968 (or '69?). In Charleston, S.C. At County Hall.
Lordy, I was young. High school.
Never have grown up.

Went to see them with Neil Young in concert in 1972 at Memphis, tn. My 3y0 tractor lover jeb also loves their album dezavu, especially the "haircut" song!!

Have always loved their stuff. My kids and I do a fairly decent "Teach your Children" in 4 part harmony with 2 of them on guitar, if I do say so myself. At least its good enough that we like listening to ourselves :>)

Yup !
I like it all. Today on the way to work was listening to Neil Young Decade (Greatest Hits) and the FACES (Ron Wood, Rod Stewart) boogie woogie group. Would like to see CSN in concert.

The new stuff is just noise and no story. My youngest has become quite a fan of Moody Blues, Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd. He says it is soothing - helps him relax. Couldn't agree more.

I'm not a huge fan of theirs but they definitely are an iconic group. Don't mind hearing them on the radio, but I would'nt pay big bucks to go to a concert. (Or the groups I really like for that matter) Neil Young has some good stuff but some of his stuff sounds like cats fighting. Kind of like the stuff he's done to help disabled kids, I can't remember what his son has I think it's cerebral palsy or something.

It's true that Neil Young had a brain aneurysm and successful treatment last year. I haven't heard that he's had any long-term problems.

Yes, quite a bit. I don't like Neal Young's solo stuff as well, but with CSN giving him some guidance the combination also worked great. My son listens to today's really heavy music. Seems like all they want to do is hammer out a single phrase like "we are being oppressed" and shout or scream it over and over again, as if the audience couldn't get it the first time. When I play CSN or CSN&Y and he is present, I try to emphase that songs can have a message and also be melodic/pleasing to the ear. Doesn't require a sledge hammer. But haven't made much progress. The daughter doesn't listen to his "crap" but really doesn't seem to have any big affinity for acoustical stuff either. The "better half" prefers Moetown and some heaver stuff. Also like the heavy stuff if it has at least some melody, although I give Jimi Hendrix has quite a bit of latitude here. Otherwise I'll remain hopelessly lost in the late 60's and early 70's by myself. Also like a lot of Bob Dylan stuff. Good thing there is a message, because he just can't sing!

back in the late 60s and early 70s like when we first got married man you know "Our House" is a very fine house w 2 cats in the yard etc. Well we thought that then (1973), and we still do but our house and our idea of a very fine house has changed a little.

The thing that amazes me is that all those old groups are still popular with a lot of the kids today. Led Zeplin, BTO, ELO, The Stones, etc.

I recommend that you rent Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" DVD. It is a film of a two night concert he gave in Nashville last fall to promote the Nebraska Winds CD. I am luke warm on that album, but apprieciated more after seening the concert film and hereing his stories behind some of the songs. The also do a half dozen or so of his classics.

It's a very nice film about a master musician and composer, very comfortable with himself and with his band on stage. I enjoyed very much and may get it again.

They mention his having a brain tumor but give no details.
