I am looking at the above truck to convert and use on the farm. It has the 345 gas motor with 5 speed trans and IHtransfer case. It will cost me a bit to convert to a flatbed snowplow and hauling truck. Is it worth it? Is it a good truck?

Thanks in advance

Lots of 'em out there...but do you know where this truck came from???

Have one of ours we've kind of lost track of (albeit we also have searched very hard...) Not stolen, just lost track of who it was sold to after who we sold it to...

Most firetrucks are low mileage, should have a lot of use left.Nothing wrong with a 345,they were very good engines.

Dunno if it's worth it or not. I suppose that's a matter of what you want to do. There's probably a lot of more modern one ton's around with diesel engines that would be as or more useful.... and easier to get parts for, most likely. On the other hand, an old fire truck may have been well cared for, and still in good shape with not too many miles... I would be careful that this truck was not a mid-ship pumper. If it was, then you could well be into some driveline work to get it set up correctly again. I know a neighbour that converted an old Dodge back from a midship pump.... on the cheap.... and he didn't get the driveshaft right, or balance it. Needless to say, it shook. Bad. If you can handle that part of the job, you might have a nice old truck. Good luck.

Maybe he could leave the pump transfer case in place and use it to run hydraulic pump. It may also have been a PTO pump for pump and roll then he'ld really be set.
