Somedays it does not pay to get out of bed. Well since we are at a stand still on finishing up silage choppen i figured that it would be a good idea to check the whell bearings on the chopper and clean and repack them well after i got the one side jacked up i noticed as it was comming up that the wheel sorta just flooped over a bit say like a inch . Oppps so pull the wheel off and the hub is a bit loose pull the cotter pin out and the fight begins channel loc's will not loosen the nut neither will a short handeled 1/2 inch ratchet and scoket it was all my long breaker bar could do then after many trys with my LONG pry bars we had to back up and play now just where in all of gods green earth are the spud bars after two hurs of looken i find them and after a couple mighty hevhos i find myself layen on may back in the hay mow , yep she was realy stuck rear bearing was gulded on the spindel . Two more hours of grinding and fileing i think it will take a new bearing . Now lets see if we have what i need two more hours of looken only to find out that NOPE ain't got one and now it is to late to get one . Will put this job on the back burner till the morning now what else can i mess up nah it's time to go home and eat supper. I can't mess that up as the War Dept is doing the cooking tonight.

Aren't you glad that you caught it befor ethe spindle was worn thru!

I was greasing my batwing the other day when i noticed some slop in a hub.. sure enough bad cotter pin and loose nut.. caught it just in time.. seal and bearing were still good.

I'm always trying to learn from the experienced mechanic types here, as well as picking up on colorful dialect from parts of the country with which I am not personally familiar. I have some idiosyncratic loquations myself and am not loath to add to them. So "gulded" looks like a useful term. Whether it's a neologism or colloquialism I can likely put it to use the next time I try to remove the hub bolts of my 3500. If it's an example of your following the dictum of our native son A. Jackson ("It's a damn poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word." - There are at least a half dozen other attributions for varients, I just prefer this one.), that's alright; I'm going to adopt it anyway.

There's another definition of "galled", WilliamF, and it nicely expresses my reaction to your post. You might want to find some egghead forum where you can match intellects with others of your ilk. We'll take the vet anytime, spelling notwithstanding.

Yea my spelling leaves a littel . Probably should have payed more attenchion to spelling then looken at all the girls in there short skirts and maken my car go faster or worken from the time i was 13 . SO maybe i do not have a PHd. at least i can fix things where as alot of you SMART people have to come on here and ask us dummys how to fix your old junk.

Now Whoa TV. I don't think William meant to step on your toes and I sure didn't neither. (Check grammar on that one) But I think what he was saying is that people in different parts of the country use different words to describe things and they are not always recognized by outsiders.
I worked for an old-timer for a while that always used the word "pack" where most of us would say "carry". Took a while to get used to. Now I find myself using it.
