First off, I know I didn't need to go buy a newer truck when my good old '96 Ford F250 with the 7.3L Powerstroke did everything I needed it to. Yesterday, I bought a 2003 Dodge 2500, reg. cab, long box, 4wd, with the H.O. Cummins and the 6spd manual. It sure is hard to find a truck spec'ed out just the way I like it, when I saw this one and found it was a great deal, I jumped on it. Had to give up my beloved Ford, but think I really upgraded. I'm gonna try to get some pictures posted in a few days if all goes well. How many other guys/ gals have trucks similar to my new one? Seems everybody has ext. cabs and short boxes these days.

You are going to enjoy your cummins powered Dodge. Here is a pic of my 94 that I bought new and is now tuned up to about 400hp. Thought about trading it a few year ago for a new "quiet" one but decided to just change the decals to the 04 model ones. Was cheaper than trading.

I"ve got a 2003 Dodge H.O. Cummins, 6spd, 4WD, Quad Cab SLT shortbox. Bought it new in June 2003, has about 60k miles and has been great. I"ve always liked the looks of the regular cab, long bed better, but with 3 kids+wife, I went with the bigger cab. I sometimes regret not getting the long box, except when I"m trying to park.

If I could build my own new truck, it'd have Dodge's Cummins, Chevy's Allison tranny and Ford's undercarriage. That would be one tough truck. The body would then just be personal preferance.

Funny, Daimler-Goat OWNS Allison, but they use the WEAKER corporate trannys in their own pickups... go figure!

I was under the impression Daimler-Chrysler wound up with Allison, when they bought Detroit Diesel-Allision.

I got my first truck when i was 19 - and i still am. It is a Ram 1500, reg. cab, long box. V8 - GAS! that"s the only downside. But I love it and it does the job for what I need, It can pull a trailer, it has a trailer towing package, and it was from my grandfather. So it has sentimental value. Enjoy your new (to you) dodge

I dispise thos long cabs. Here's the 04 I special ordered. Probably be the last new truck I ever buy. It has the 5.7 hemi, 4.10 gears, rubber mats, cab lights, no electric windows or door locks to shut me out. No cruise, but hey, I got heat & air. Oh yeah, we put dual pipes on it. Makes realy nice music @2500 pulling a loaded trailer.

Just about every time I am driving along the highway and hear something rumbling nearby, I look around and it is either a junker or a new Dodge truck. What's the deal anyway? I want my new vehicle, whether it is a new car or my new heavy duty truck, to whisper to me. The last thing I want is a constant roar.

Don't be. That is a good looking truck. I have just never understood why someone (especially the high percentage of Dodge truck owners) buy a new truck and then put loud pipes on it.

your going to like the dodge,we have fords and dodges,,like the dodges best,the 6.0 ford aint bad but the cummins is a notch better,,my cousin down the road has a chevy diesel, it sure rides better,,my 2 cents,,,billy

I've toyed with the idea of painting the bottom 6 or so inches of the sheet metal with truck bedliner to protect from flying rocks and such. I 'spose it's worth a try if it's not all dinged up already.

I did that with my new truck back in '03 when I bought it. I like it because you don't have to wax it down there and you can use a short handled bristle brush to scrub it. One down side though, I hit a deer last fall and ruined drivers side front fender and door skin and rear quarter panel behind tire. In fixing these items I lost the spray on liner from them and it is impossible to match because of "weathering" effect on the rest of the truck.

BBx, I'm 58, and you remind me of a story about my first new truck. I bought a new 1976 Ford, 4x4 with the 360 V-8 and it didn't have 50 miles on it when dad came over and I was under it taking the pipes off to put duals on it. It just so happened that he had come over to use some tools. It seems that he had spent a little more than I had to buy a new exhaust pipe for his truck to make it quieter and I had spent less than he did to make mine noisier. He just couldn't understand it. It's a generation thing I guess. Harley

I had a '76 with the 390. Couldn't wait for the original muffler to rust away so I would have a good excuse to replace it with dual pipes. Had to do a little searching to find those good'ol walker glass packs. That really let the 'ol girl talk. When my son turned 16, I gave the truck to him. Those pipes got him in trouble more than once.

I bought a new '76 Ford F-150 to tow our travel trailer with it. Had the 360 engine, 8 hole wheels, heavy duty everything. Did everything we wanted it to do! Trailer was a 20' Taurus, tandem axles. Had the rig for 5-6 years, then bought a '78 Dodge Mini motor home. Has the 440 engine in it, and the 727 transmission, dual wheels! And, it "books"! And we're still using it! Sold the Ford, didn't need it. Now, for home use, i drive a '91 Ford, 2.3 engine, Ranger, 183,000+ miles on it, runs perfect, doesn't burn oil! And doesn't have loud pipes! (Well, the muffler has to be replaced, if it quits raining next week!
