I know this is O/T but it will be used to load tractors. Friend just gave me a Jeep winch serail number 78331, and of course there is no contols for it. It has a 4 pin plug in for the control. Does any body have a diagram on how its should be wired to make it work like it should?? I know I can take it apart and figure it out but I would prefer at least haveing a little bit of a clue to it. Thanks

Hey, Rich email me a picture of the winch. I can't ever remember Jeep having their own winch, they used both Ramsie and Warn winches. My Warn only uses 3 wires in the control, Plus power cable that hooks to relay.

By chance did you get the control cable with the winch??

Nope NO control cable with it. Thats where the problem is. If I had the cable it would be childs play to fix but with out it then its just a crap shoot. This thing has Jeep all over it an even has the AMC jeep logo on it so Its probably old

OK Rich, Jeep did not build their own winch, had someone else build them. Did you email me a picture?

Probably all you will need is double throw, single pole, center off toggle switch. I think if you look at the wire hookup on the backside of the plug on the winch, only 3 terminals are being used.

No pictures yet, just got it this after noon around 4PM here. I know the motor on it has 3 wires going in. One looks like ground and the other 2 are for forward.back wards. It has a heavy cable on it and thats why he gave it to me. He figures with all the stuff I haul I need it and it helps him also. LOL guess at times its good to have a partner that owns a pawn shop. I know if I pull the face palte off I could probalby figure it out but figured I would try here first so maybe I could be lazy LOL. By the way we hauled in 3 tractors in the last 2 days

Rich, sounds like it is missing all the relay circuitry. Should have at least 2 starter 3 terminal relays, like ford starter relay. My Warn has 4 if I remember correctly. I have an old Ramsey in the shop, will look at the relay circuitry on it.

It should have 3 wires that control forward and reverse----1 hot that is connected to one of the other two wires via the 2 position, center off toggle switch.

I pulled the face plate off today. It has 4 soliniods/relays. None of which seem to work at all they only click. I can make it pull in but can't get it to pay out the cable. The way this thing is wired is out of this world as far as what I see and so far I haven't figured any of it out other then pull in. The motor has not 3 but four wires on it. 1 ground and 3 other wires on the motor, which looks like a starter motor byt the way. One wire is where it would be if it was a starter and 2 are side by side but at the other end of the motor. I would hate to spend 70 or so bucks just to replace all the relays if theres a way to wire around them. And Ya I know PICTURE LOL
I forgot to say I also found WARN industys on the plate so its a warn winch

The soliniods are there, I was talking about the wires from the motor. It has a face plate with the plug and behind the face plate is where the relays etc are I just haven't opened it up yet. But I think now I have a good guess as how to wire it up. One of the 4 pins in the plug should be power, 1 for forward one for back-um-up and one just there to ask questions about, or ground. So I'll just pull the face plate off and see which goes where and hope it still works since it sat out side for years

All it says on it is JEEP, no other words, so I'm guessing it was made for the jeep company
