I have a Ford 860 and need to add some power steering fluid. What can I use or what do you use for power steering fluid, I"v been told some use hydraulic fluid and others use transmission fluid.

TO ME the easiest thing is to jus unbolt it an have a 5 gal bucket sittin there waitin to pour it in. Leave the lines hooked up an tilt. If theys a pile a crud in the bottom rinse as needed with min spirits. Change the filter fore you refill.

My tractor didn't have a filter on it when I bought it in the power steering reservoir and I went ahead and bought all I need to install a filter.I have the retainer ,the retainer spring, and the spring seat. the retainer has a half hook on the bottom of it---what does it hook to , to keep the filter in place>?

I have always used dexron tranny fluid in my power steering on my 841, I tried the hyd fluid but it didn;t work well and I had to drain and flush the system because of it.

I'd really try to add what was in there.. however.. generically, UTF, hydraulic fluid, or power steering fluid ( atf ) would probably all work.

you could always drain and go back in with UTF
