Is the cigarette lighter always "hot" electrically?

Battery dead, (dome light left on), hood latch cable broke.

Gotta jump battery to take to dealer ifin I can't figure out how to get to cable.'

Urr

Thanks for all the suggestions, you are great. Got the slow charger on it now through the starter hot lead.

Get a plug in for the cig lighter find the + wire and hook a charger up to both + and - with less than 10 amps of charge 2 would be better and let go all night this should charge battery enough to start with out burning anything up since the amps are so low . .

You might be able access the battery+ at the starter for a jump.

You will probably have to jack one side up a bit to get in there and see what you are doing.

MAKE SURE THE TRUCK IS IN PARK OR NEUTRAL!!! Not to imply you're stupid, but a part time mailman killed himself last year trying to start his car that way after it stalled. He was under his car for about three hours before anyone went down the road he was on.

Spoke with a friend and this was his suggestion. Got 5 amp charger on it now. By morning it should be up to snuff, enough for run into work. Slower is better for a flatter than flat battery.

Was at Buffalo saturday getting in laws set up with gernator, radio, and cellar pumped out. It has been catch up since.

Always hot if the fuse is good. in reply to ErnieDD, 10-17-2006 17:02:13
Auto stores sell a doohickey that lets you charge a battery through the cigarette lighter. You can't jump start the truck with it. It takes a while, but it works, especially if you turn the dome light off before trying it.

Don't even think about dumping a lot of current down that cigarette lighter wire. If it's not fused you'll let the smoke out of the wire.

Charge the battery slowly on a low setting until the battery is charged. Disconnect the connection to the cigarette lighter and then start the engine.

Frustrating ain't it??

Yep. in reply to coflyboy, 10-17-2006 17:46:42
I don't know how the device limits the current - maybe it has a fuse in it.
