Trying to finnish the last 10 acres of corn silage, it's going allot slower then the first 80 acres. Had to park the big 4wd Farmalls and get the buzz box hooked on the old Massey. It may be messy but we are keep chipping away at it.

Hey Barnrat, what model is that chopper. There aren't many people that chop around here, and I've never see a one row chopper. If I could find a one row chopper I might chop some corn for my beef heard.

Thanks

hi barnrat i had been wondering how you were doing with corn chopping as you had said earlier about all the mud and rain you have been fighting with . do you pick or shell any corn for grain ? or do you buy it ? mud makes milking cows a real pain to . glad i don't do that any more . when you are doing it every day you don't give it much thought . when you have been away it a while you wonder how you did it . it is sometimes hard to feed my beef cows with snow ,ice and mud of winter . this year i have some small squares to feed when conditions are bad .

I'm only 30 so the thought of getting tired of milking cows hasn't occured to me yet. I put up 20 acres of Snap corn last week. I plant that on rented ground that is tiled and is gravel soil, not to hard to move down there. With talk of $3.00 plus corn that snap corn pays for itself.

Hey, thanks for the photos, most non farmers don't realize what us farmers have to go through to get the crop out of the field in conditions like you have this year. And besides, us livestock farmers have to contend with sloppy conditions around the cattle and hog yards besides. Glad you posted the photos!

If I showed pictures of what my cows have to go through everyday to get to the pasture. Someone would call the animal humane society. Kind of ironic though is that as soon as I get corn in, I won't have to put the cows out anymore till spring.

That's a JD 830 2cyl electric start. Don't use it much any more just runs the silage blower and maybe pulls the disk in the spring. I'm in Sinclairville near Jamestown.

Can you go slow enough with the 1100 to not overload the NH? Tried that same set up 20 years ago and plugged the chopper tight, 1 low was too fast. No gear box on the chopper to back up with. zugly.

1st low and back and forth between low and high multipower. My foot isn't too far from the clutch either. I have plugged it though and that sucks.

Im very sorry for all the rain. I requested rain in July, guess the man up stairs is just now filling my order sorry! The wife says its my fault for ordering all that rain in july she said you got it now. Very messy here in N. IL too just hook the truck onto the tractor to get to the other end of the field and fill it drag it back. Trying to stay on the road with trucks as much as possible but as busy as roads are now adays pull the truck into the ditch and dump cart in 1 1/2 lanes, but as busy as road s are and pepole cant slwo down and use the remainign lane/shoulder to go around.

A buddy of mine almost bought a farm in NY a few years back. He said lands a lot cheaper up there but once it gets wet the ground doesnt have a "bottom". Boy, he was right. Do you normally have that much trouble getting corn in? I bet thats fun bouncing over all those ruts in the spring. I love seeing all the old equipment. In my area everyone gets the big Claas choppers in. I like seeing it the old way.

Q: What do you call $300,000 stuck in the mud
A: A Claas Chopper this year.

Usually one out of 3 years you have a wet year. Although this year even the old timers can't remember one this wet.

And to think that you got off the tractor, slogged through that gumbo, and took those pictures. What a guy! Love to see shots like this.
Thanks for sharing,

Oh my word, I can't belive you are getting through that field. I think some of the guys with big four wheel drive trucks would be impressed with those pictures! Not only going through unbelievable amounts of mud but pulling that big chopper and wagon through it too. We are wet like that here in mid michigan today too. We got 7 tenths three days ago and 3 mored tenths yesterday and now we got anther 8 tenths last night and it is black and raining outside right now. We have received over 30 inches of rain since we planted beans this year and still climbing. Pretty cool pics. Thanks for posting. Later.

Those folks with the big 4wd trucks don't have cows to feed.

Agreed. My first thought was, "holy schutt!!" Bet some of our rocks and calichie would help.

Dad's last tractor was a 1100 Massey. It was pretty good in Kansas mud.
