We got any pistachio farmers out there? I like to eat em but being on the east coast buying from the stores it's hard to tell what's fresh and what's not. So, when do y'all do the harvesting and can I buy direct. One other question, what was the reason for useing the red dye many years ago?

I was told that pistchios are genetically bred to crack open, making them easier to eat. Any truth to that or do they all pop open like that?

Don"t know why, but the red-dyed ones always tasted better, saltier I guess....

Don't know about the goat pizz. I only eat the ones grown in the USA.

Recent show on the food channel said that red dyed pistachios were imported from the mid-east where they allow them to fall to the ground at harvest. This apparently discolors the shells and so they dyed them red to hide it. That was the reason given.
