I used to use the tried and true GM conversion for all my old tractors. But, the constantly haveing to fabricate new brakets was such a, well I got tired of it. Once people in my community found out that I did the conversions and the elctrical systems are not voodoo to me. Well here they came. To the made in America purest, I apologize. I use Subaru alternators, the "zone store" number. 14118. No infringements here. The fit JD M"s and Fords very well. For the Fords I drill out the mount holes if I have to, althought most come the right size. For the tightener bracket I use an 81 ford pickup bracket with a offset in it. Have not tried a Case yet. It does take two wires, but I am rewiring anyway. They are smaller units and generate power at lower rpms and lower amperages so the old guages can still handle it. Hope this helps someone looking to avoid those unsightly addon brakets.

It is a Hitachi Alternator, they build for several different manufactures. I hope these links work. IF NOT they are in the community album. I pay 41.00 dollars plus core fee.http://www.tractorshed.com/cgi-bin/gallery/community_pic.cgi?pic=http;//www.tractorshed.com/gallery/community/c584.jpg&firstrec=1&lastrec=15&Parameter=&mode=All&what=community Link

I like the look. This also looks like it will fit my narrow confines as well. The GM alternators, while perfect in function, are immediately recognizable. I think if this were prepped and painted with the tractor, most would be no wiser. I can handle $41. Thats almost what I have in the bearings and brushes in my generator. I suspect a field wire and a reference wire wil also be needed?

I just use a field wire and have no problems.
Good Luck

So this bolts in to the stock brackets better than the GM 10si? I am not particular, but would certainly like to reuse my stock brackets, if possible. The generator was quite a bit smaller than the 10si and I was looking at hand fabricating brackets. How much do you pay for these alternators?

Hey, you dangled the carrot...

what are the 2 wires??, do you need some sort of plug-in adapter to connect or can you slip connectors directly onto the alternator terminals?

The number 14118 (Lester number) comes up as a 50 amp Hitachi alternator for some models of Nissan.
