Family beagle is running all around the house, including taking over my chair. I want to keep him in the kitchen and playroom. My idea is to get an underground, invisible fence setup, and nail the wire under the floor in the basement around the playroom and kitchen. Anyone tried it?

My wife's aunt and uncle use this method with their dog and it works great. Make sure to staple the wire back a bit from the actual edge though, otherwise they may not be able to get within 4 feet or so to the actual line you don't want them to cross.

The problem with using a training collar is if the dog is bright like mine, it knows it only has to behave when you are around (or awake). Our dog will not even think about getting on the couch during the day. However, wake up at 2 AM to pee and you hear his collar jingle as he hops down off the sofa.

Aloha, Yep, animals are smart. We had a cat that wasn't allowed upstairs and when he heard the front door open, he came running down.

My brother has an outdoor unit and his dog wears his collar indoors or out. No problem with anything in the house setting it off. I think it should work.

You may get interferance from electric wires and pipes setting it off. They do make a wireless unit it may work better. I'd contact Petsafe and ask them. They were real helpful when my dogs collar unit went bad.

Yes, putting the wires just under the floor joists works good...our outdoor dog fence goes across the basement ceilng and keeps any dogs with their collars on from going down the hall to the bedrooms, it works pretty nicely.
