How Many is Too Many?

I got to thinking today (which is kind of scary to begin with) and was wondering how my "collection" of tractors stacked up to that of other tractor enthusiast's. Some may say I have too many, and some may say too few. Currently, my barn is home to 5 antique tractors and one modern tractor. One day, maybe my barn will be fuller. How many tractors fill up your barn (or barns).

I only have 3, but one of them was purchased this summer at an auction of over 350 tractors, and thousands of related items all owned by one late collector. His car auction was last summer, and I was told there were over 400 cars and trucks.

Talked to a feller yesterday that between him and his dad had 19 Super MTA's. Say's he's got one with a prototype Perkins diesel in it, from the factory.

this guy's got too many. Sign on the barn says there's another lot up the road a half mile with 100+ more of 'em. Looks like 40 acres, crammed in tight enough if you bought one, it'd probly take him half a day to get it out.

You here in Iowa? Guy buys 'em up at auction if they don't bring a satisfactory price. Resells if people are willing to pay his rate. Farm is somewhere around the Pomeroy area. Email is open if you want a name, street address, or directions.

I've got 5 fords from 1946 thru 1975
I've also got a IH, Allis Chalmers, JD between 1949-1966

And I got 1 new-ish tractor a 2002 NH to mow with.

Wives, you can get in trouble with having too many.. Having too many tractors is no trouble.. unles you ask the wife.. etc.

Well,

I don't have 3 barns full but, I have what my dad always wanted. He wanted 1 of each of the letters series tractors but my mom would never go along with it. So I have put the collection together and let him keep 4 of them at his farm in Indiana.
Currently I have 3 SMTA'S, a triumverent if you will. A Gasser, a Diesel, and a LPG. I have 2 H's, 1 C, 1 A, 2 B's, and a cub.
The SMTA Diesel is restored as well as one of the B's, and one of the H's. The LPG is next for paint as mechanically I have it running like a sewing machine.
My dad turned 70 this year and me buying these tractors and having him help me to restore them has gotten him out of his chair, and given him something to do on a daily basis. He worked for 15 years at a IH dealership in Indiana back in the late fifties and sixties, and really knows his stuff.
His knowledge has really helped me along this journey of restoration as well as bringing me to a place with my dad that I had never before experienced. I owe IH tractors a debt of gratitude...thanks IH for bringing me close to my dad before it was too late. DREW

Tractors are only the beginning. I always quit counting at 12. Then start on combines. (just added a JD 55 with both heads). Then throw in other antique self-propelled farm machines like an early Hilvetti (sp?) high boy sprayer,or one of the first self-propelled forage harvesters with a Waukesha stationary engine for power. How about a #6 vermeer trencher. Then add a Ford backhoe. Throw in a bunch of implements, add a few old grain trucks, 4 or 5 pickups, a GMC box truck, a couple of trailers, several sheds, forklifts, a power unit or two, and so on. Pretty soon, ya got a hobby! (or your hobby has you)! Anyway, the answer to your question is 2 more than you have, no matter how many you have.

If you ever get the chance, go to Pioneer Village in Minden Nebraska. I don't remember how many buildings full of old tractors, on two stories, they have but it is a bunch. Same way with everything else there. Cars and trucks of every make and model, airplanes (many hanging from the ceiling with cables), steam engines, at least one of which has an electric motor hidden away somewhere so you can push a button and watch it run, although slowly, powering a thresher also. Plan on spending a full day there. You WILL be tired of walking before you can see everything even at a glance. The gentleman who started it is Harold Warp, the founder of what I believe may now be Plexiglass corporation. At least I know he started with some type of plastic window, and spent the money on buying and buying stuff for the village. It is worth seeing.

Where is this located and are visitors allowed?
Reminds me of the Schwanke museum in Willmar, MN
although Schwanke has many brands, not just IH, as this looks like.

Tractors older than 1960 number 6 at our farm, a couple of which are still used fairly regularly.

The 1256 (1968 model) gets used every day, and the 544 (I think a '71) is used a couple times a week.

The rest of the tractors are late 70's and early 80's models, probably not quite antique yet.
