Me and Lenard own a 750 acre horse farm would a blue tractor be the right size for us we have a 1/2 mile of fence to maintain MISSY

Color shouldn't matter. Any tractor about 30 HP or more should work fine. Maybe you could be more specific about what blue tractor you were considering? Dave

round here half mile of fence outta go round 750 acres, and no a blue tractor would fall off, its 5470 ft strait up 135 feet over and 6740 ft down yonders gorge

I dont know why you guys think a Hoyt Clagwell isnt OK for a rookie. My next door neighbor Oliver Douglass bought one off Mr Haney and he's as greenhorn as they get. Now That Mrs Douglass WOW !! I sure hope Doris dont see this.

Missy, I sense that some are not giving your question the thoughtful consideration it deserves. I don't understand why, because the guys on this board are usually pretty good about giving straightforward answers. As to your question, you don't need to buy a blue tractor, so long as you remember to paint it blue after you get it home. I would suggest a fairly large tractor, because you're going to have to do some serious stretching on that half mile of fence to get it around 750 acres. HTH.

Dear Missy & Lenard, I can tell you from experience that blue tractors and horses can be made to coexist with care. I have found it is best to raise tobacco to keep the tractor happy and hay to keep the horses happy. I'd suggestabout 100 acres of each. I have thought about changing color in my tractor but can't think of another post name so that's out. It is always best to keep your tractor and horses the same color if possible. You can paint either, just check with your local TSC store and they will help you. As the below post said, don't forget to study.

This has to be a joke.
Otherwise;
I must of missed the fact that tractors were color coded by size.
Also if you have 750 acres. There would be over 4 miles of fence just around the out side. A 10 acre place has 1/2 mile of fence.

Actually around horses a soft white tractor seems to work the best. The state collage did a extensive study on tractor color vs. animal behavior and found that blue is in same reaction category as yellow.
If you would choose to work with goats or sheep, then a blue tractor would probably be a good choice.

Missy,your 750 acre horse ranch must be mostly open range if you only have a 1/2 mile of fence to maintain! That 1/2 mile of fence must be the "catch pen". Most any color tractor would do the job. Tx Jim

It all depends on what shade of blue it is. I would strongly recomend a purple tractor for all types of agriculture enterprises. If you can't find a purple tractor you can greatly improve the performance of a blue tractor by painting it burgandy. A few of us farm with chartuse colored tractors but unless you are a very experienced operater I would suggest you stay away from them. If you happen to run across an ETD buy it if at all possible. I would suggest you ask over on the Tractor Tales board, as that is where all the ETD experts hang out.

Why would you want a blue tractor when you could have this beautifull state of the art Hoyt-Clagwell, it has all of the 1949 updates installed at no extra charge.

With all respect Mr Haney I do not think it would be a good idea to try and encourage Lenard and Missy tyo purchase a tractor like that. I am afraid that as inexperienced as they seem to be that the accessories on that fine tractor would be confusing and diffult for them to operate. If you noticed their spread is rather small. With the huge amount of fencing they have it must be a very complex fecing arrangement and an inexperienced person trying to operate such a fine machine could result in some very major fence damage thus resulting in some serious expenses that would be detremental to such a fine couple who seem to be just starting out in such a brave venture. I am sure you meant well with your advice and I hope you take my suggestion in the spirit intended.
