Well Heck!

Everything was going according to plan too.

Except that darned folding door!

I've tried every possible combination, including bending the lower door lip and it just will not clear that strut without the strut being mounted away from the tractor frame about 4". That won't work; the strut has to load the frame.

Okay, guess I'll pull the hinge pin and fabricate some kind of a canvas curtin for the lower door opening. Geeze! Just when I thought I had 'er all whipped too. :>(

Either that, or buy a front hang loader..... ..Naw. :>)

Nice part was that Big Marv provided me with the missing step and that was a simple bolt on deal.

Thanks Marv!

Allan

I can’t tell from the pictures but; would it be possible to move the hinges on the top half of the door from the rear of the door to the top and make the entire door lift up?

You could leave it hinged in the center as is, and rig some type of counterweight, spring assist or the mechanisms like used on a hatchback.

Allan, I am no sure I under stand yer dilema, does that bottom 1/2 not fold up far enough? If so can you do some modification at the pivot points so it can fold a full 180 up against the window on the inside? Can you remove the hinge and ad 2 verticle slides on the bottem half up to the top half and just pull it up like when you open a house window. There has to be a way to avoid remiving the door. Anything else would just be uncivilized!!

Allan

Hang in there, you'll figure it out. From the pictures and the replies I see I would be relocating that tube either outwards or moving the front connection rearward. Either way gives you more room to swing that door. Whatever you do to the one side, do to the other to avoid any potential twisting as you load that beast up.

How did the hydraulics work out?

John

Allan,
Do you have room to make it like some of the Egging cabs? The top door opened out & the lower half opened in. Could just open top & crawl over bottom half. Just a thought.
Ted

...Or you could do like the rest of us. Just hang a piece of blue shag carpeting with a couple of cow magnets hemmed in the bottom over that lower opening.
Before you know it, it will be so cozy in that cab you'll be sitting out there reading the Sunday paper.
Good Luck ☺

Allan how about you get a piece of heavy wall 4" tubing (square of course) and secure it to the tractor frame. and if four inches there is not enough you could probably go up to as much as eight inches with a longer piece to attach to the rails, just WAG

Fred, I agree!
An "off-set" made from heavy square tubeing of 4"/6"/or 8" at the front of the tractor frame would be a simple (and stout) way of moving the strut over to gain clearance at the door, and without any modifications to the door itself.

It shouldn't take more than an hour to fabricate and install such an "off-set".

Allen,
Here is a wild thought. Open the door until it hits the brace and them cut the bottom of the door at the same angle as the brace and hinge it so that the bottom part tips up and the door opens as far as you need it to. Hinge it to tip inward. When you close the door you can then lower the bottom portion and shut the door. I am sure that you can figure out some sort of closing mechanism that will keep the bottom portion rigid when the door is closed. I agree with you, forget the well and work on the door,
Bud

Could cut the door in two horizontally, just below the handle. (It looks like the top half would clear at that point.) Then install a hinge between the two pieces of the door, which would allow the lower portion to fold onto the upper portion when the door is lifted upward on it"s new hinge installed at the top of the cab. You could cobble up a spring assist and have a gullwing door.

Oh, I see. Back to the hinge on top instead of the rear of the door.

I'm liking the roll open door more and more.

Could you cut the bottom part of the door in half and weld a hinge in the middle. That way the bottom would work like a bifold closet door. Just a thought. Brokenwrench

You could torch that pesky brace you got on there and put a hasp on one end and a hinge on the other ;-P

Good idea, Gaylen- and if you really want to get slick, do the whole door that way, with the works from a mini-van side door, cut down appropriately. What a great winter project!

I have an industrial cab I adapted to my tractor. The door is in two and both are on pins so they can be taken off if you don't want them on. Could you put the bottom door on hinge pins and just lift it off when you get in and then put it back on? In the summer you could just leave it off if and it would be easier to get in. Just a thought. Dave
