If I remember right there where no WD45s in 1950, I think the first year was 1954. A WD45 will not have a bolt on plate on the right side of the engine, the shafter will have a little curve to it. Those are 2 of the ways to figure them out, but late WDs had the curved shifter and either engine will bolt into either tractor. Best way to be sure it get the serial numbers off the tractor. They are on the left rear alxe houseing and then run the numbers under where it says serial numbers on the left of this page. I my self own both tractors so I know what and where to look

Start with the serial number. The serial number is located on the left rear of the axle housing right about the mounting point for the hydraulic lift arm. The serial number registry listed on the left of this site, under Research & Info can help you identify the exact year. Other things to look for; a curved shifter. If the shifter is curved it is likely a very late WD or a WD45. The WD45 wasn't made until 1953, starting with serial number 146607. Another thing to look for is the engine itself. If there is an inspection plate on the right side of the engine (behind the magneto/distributor), it is a WD. Because many of these tractors have had replacement engines, transmissions, and everything else over the years, any of them could be a combination of a WD and a WD45. You'll just have to check it out. Tim
