I had my dog out for a while. I stopped by my daughter's place, she has two chickens which run loose. As soon as the dog saw the chickens the chase was on. The dog acted like she didn't hear me call her to stop, all she had on her mind was the chicken. The dog finally cought one if I haden't got to her she would have killed it. Should my daughter get faster chickens, or has ony one had any luck stopping a dog from chasing, without harming the dog? Stan

We had a pup once that started killing chickens. My dad took a dead chicken and beat the snot out of the dog with it...never killed another.

My Great Pyrenees used to kill our chickens. One day I smacked her a few times with a dead chicken. She hasn't touched one since.

The last chicken/cat killing dog I had around the farm was banned from setting foot on the place. Ain't seen him since and ain't lost a chicken or a cat since. 8^)

One trick I heard for a cat killer was to get some twine and tie the dead cat around the dog"s neck for a couple of weeks.....of course not suitable for a dog that usually goes into the house. Apparently it puts them off going near cats for life. Considering how sensitive a dog"s nose is and how a dead cat smells after a couple of weeks, any wonder!

Try a a quart of water in the face, dosen't hurt anything but it lets them know it's wrong & it hurts their feelings. Humans & lot of critters eat chickens. Old Saying "In order to teach a dog anything, you have to be smarter than the dog"

Dad solved that problem one morning, We had an australian shepard that would give the chickens holy h**l usually to te pointwhere the hens stopped laying. He'd usually munch one a day. One morning Dad was in the milkhouse and heard a fracus down by the chicken house, so he grabbed his Ithaca 16 gage that he kept in the barn office and stepped out on the milk block. The dog was going about his usual morning ritual and didn't see Dad about 50 yards away. Dad touched off a couple volleys of #6 3" mags at the dog. Didn't injure the dog but lit his fire forever. The dog would come walking up the road and cross over to the opposite side from the chicken house as tight to the fence as he could get until he was past. And if he was in the truck coming up the road he would get down on the floor as the truck passed the chicken house. When you walked down to the chicken house he would sit on the milk block and wait until you came back. Musta thought what happened to him the chickens did.

Ditto on the training collar. If my dogs 'ignore' me calling.. they get the collar. then i take them back out for 'school' and see if they 'can hear me know'

i got a new pup abput ayear ago and she decided she could whip my wifes mare .well the mare could have killed her but she let the dog live but i new it was just a motter of time. I borrowed one of those radio controled shock collars from my pard and that stopped her the first time- period!

One front paw in the collar works well.
