I don't know about the JD 5303, but wheel spacing is most important fro row crop cultivating and planting. Issues for hay farming: If you are going to plow land and plant crops, wheel spacing is important for proper use of a moldboard plow, but someone else will have to advise you as I don't use one. If you are going to be using a harrow only, wheel spacing wont matter. If you are going to be cutting hay with a 3ph sickle mower or disc mower, wheel spacing should be adjusted so that the right wheel does not run over the uncut hay if you try to get a full cut with the cutter bar. If you are going to pull a haybine I don't think you will have to change the factory setting. You should have the spacing wide enough to straddle the previous windrow if you have the haybine set to make windrows. When baling with a square baler, the tractor should be set narrow enough so that the baler pickup does not have to pick up hay that has been run over by the right wheel of the tractor. When using a round baler, the wheels should be spaced wide enough to straddle the windrow. If you are going to transport the tractor on a trailer, the wheels should be narrow enough to go on the trailer. Hope this helps. KEH
