I am starting to think my $500.00 not running JD 401 industrial isn't going to be much of a bargin after all. Becides the engine kit I figured it needed, The cam needs grinding, now today I removed the crank and found a couple of the mains have spun in the block. This can be repaired by line honeing the block, has anyone had any experience doing this on a JD 4.219 engine. I know this lowers the crank a few ths. How much can be taken off of the block, and have the timing gears still mesh without binding? Stan

I've done it on 6 cylinder engine [ Deere 544-A loader] If done right, will last for years..You'll need to find a reputable shop to do this..I had to scrap a block because someone else screwed up the clearances , Piston was tapping the head . This was on a 410 backhoe..I found an air compressor with a junk rotary screw compressor..Changed the rear plate and it bolted right up... A buddy of mine just happens to have one.. $ 1500.00 Runs sweet..NE Ohio
