Was reading the earlier posts on hooking up your welder. When My dad and I hooked one up years ago, we put the receptacle on about a 20 foot lead out of the breaker box. Don't remember the size of the wire but it was very heavy. That allowed us to drage the welder around in the shop where the welder leads would not reach. Also if we could not get something inside the shop, the welder could be taken out side. Not sure how that met code but it has always worked and never had a problem.

I saw a ahop that had the welder on a long cord like that. Then he mounted a door track from the workbench in the front of the shop to the big door and hung the welder on the track. It made it a whole lot easier and better to get the welder where he needed it.
