I'm headed for Port Isabel TX to spend the winter. Things do not seem to function on the bottom of the USA as they do in other parts so I'm not too sure I'll be able to get on line as reliably as do I here in CO, so I want to wish you all, especially Kim, a very happy Thanksgiving, the merriest of Christmases, and the best new year yet (may corn go up another buck). Be back on for sure in May.

Looks like another pinheaded Colordian comming to Texas to spend his Yankee Dollars here in Texas. Actually it is Texas Snow Sking Dollars comming Home! Coflyboy, You can stay in Colorado if that is the way you are going to act! We have ALL the comforts of home HERE, That you have up there. You are just another shineing example of pinheadedness that I have experienced many, many time beingin Colorado from time to time. Especially after they see your Texas plates. Like not getting waited on in restraunts!
I am quite sure that this attitude is not the norm but it does still exist.
I sure would hate to break down in front of your house.
Later,
John A.

After listening to us Coloradoans in small 'tourist-type' towns (previously known as: farm, ranching or mining towns) b**h about Texans my whole life I figured out the problem: Back in the days when most of the old towns here were on the back-tax list the Texans (and a fair amount of OKies) bought all they could and established summer places to get out of the heat. So when they show up a lot of residents naturally figure the Texans are tourists when they actually are tax-paying property owners. Most of the people who squeal the loudest just moved here from a big city somewhere and don't realize that those Texans have been coming here for 30, 40 even 50 years! Another thing is that they drive some pretty shiny outfits since they have to come all the way from home to get here whereas a local who never gets out of the county is still driving his 15 year old pickup with the license plates hung on with baling wire. I believe that's where the stereotype of the 'rich Texan tourist' came from. Personally, I'd rather have Texans move in than urbanites that want to change everything to the way it was in the place they just left. Last but not least: nearly every tourist I've dealt with is pretty friendly and will probably, if given a chance, tell me something about life here in America that I did not know. How else would I know about Big Bend N'tl. Park, Yankee Magazine, the Natchez Trace, Boonesboro, Blackhawk State Park or air-
brake actuated deer whistles on school buses? So, don't put down your local tourist(s) 'cause you might be one yourself someday! Footnote: I got called one in Missouri once after I made a creative turn from an exit ramp but the guy didn't beat me up; he made me smile!

When in Texas I sometimes ask why Texans are so good to Snow Birds from Colorado when Coloradoans do not always reciprocate. The inevitable response is a big grin and the comment that they 'like our money'. They also say 'you are not Snow Birds here, you are Winter Texans'. Never been treated better than when in Texas.
I've been in Colorado in the mountains over 40 years but since I got busted up I can't take the cold any more.
Just glad I'm able to spend the winters on the Gulf.
Next year I'm going to make the lower level of my house (a self contained apartment) available to 'Summer Coloradoans' from Texas.
Bill, where are you from?

In Colorado you are better off with Texas plates than Nebraska plates. Even if you are a Rockies or Broncos fan.

John, I don't think that was called for. I am sure that there are some nice people in Texas.

Aw Cowman, didn't mean it that way. It's just just that I have high speed DSL Wi-Fi here at home. I can get about a quarter mile away and can still get on with the computer.

I just don't have all that equipment in my RV, so when I get away from home things just don't work the same.

Even South Carolina has Internet. But we're ranked next to last, most likely.
Thank God for Mississippi.
