If a fella like me was going to purchase a new utility tractor with a front bucket for doing chores like, grading the gravel drive, hauling old wood, stumps and sticks to the back of the property, snow removal and landscaping what machine should I get. Kubota, Case IH or Deere.

Kubota is a maybe a little less $$$ but I dont think the reliablity is there, I rented a Kubota for a day 3 years ago and the steering went out on it and it was rough. Case IH would be good, maybe more durable but more money. Deere---A lot more then the Kubota but better machine overall in my opinion. In your guys opinion what is better a manual transmission or the hydrostatic, which costs more? How reliable is the hydrostatic trans over the manual, I have heard of hydrostats seizing up on the small garden tractors in 3-4 years. I would be looking at getting a machine in the 2500# range with a 1.3L diesel. I think that the Kubota would be about$15k, Case IH $17K and the Deere about $20k. I think that warrantys are about 3 years or so are the warrantys 100% on all parts, service? I know that all of these have Japanese diesels but the Kubota is 100% from Japan and the CaseIH and the Deere are assembled here. I have been told that when you buy a Deere you are paying for the name.

I have a 1715 Ford/New Holand manual trans 6 spd have small farm in WV bought used 8 years old with 256 hrs $8200 with new 5 ft king-kutter mower . Just love it had 8n before doesn't compair to FWD . A friend has MF 2300 it is good little tractor .

1st off why would you want a new machine compared to the $'s per horse over the antique but ok ill give you my $0.o2 on new tractors first off keep america american were we are at my farm is surronded by 4 other farms running over 4k acres each one uses new holland and kinze, 2 are straight deere people, and we have one Ih guy now me being an educated guy on the market had one of our local john deere farmers come down and ask me if deere was higher and if so who was cheaper. well i told him thats everyones in competition and it really depends on how much the dealership jacks em up so i compared three models for him a john deere 9620 4x4 at $215,500 now thats a 500 hp machine a new holland tj500 500 ponies at 218,800 and a case stx500 at 216,250,,, now this is just prices out of the farm magizine and not of ih jd or nh

The Farmtrac and Mahindra tractors made in India are worth a look too. Farmtrac (Long) is based on the older Ford design and Mahindra is based on IH. Like others have said try them out and consider the dealer.

Being the big three are virtually identical in their performance look at the dealerships in their customer service and how close they are to you. It's not a questions of if you break the machine it's a question of when and how difficult it will be to get the right parts the first time as quickly as possible. Because we will all tell you that stuff always breaks at the most inconventant times.

I'd go with the dealer you are happiest with, & the machine that 'feels' right to you.

There is little substantial difference any more, all are pretty good polished machines.

I much much prefer a manual tranny, but that is my preference. You loose a little hp with the hydro, loose a little efficiency, and it costs more. Since I drive tractors all day long,t he manual is _much_ easier for me to know how things are going - I get feedback from it. The hydro is like driving a marshmellow, I don't know what is slipping exactly. But, that is all just personal preference, just me.

I'd look at New Holland, the Case you mention is basically a clone of it - the NH would be the 'original' & sometimes a bit less for a more tested components. Kubota is equally as good - you musta just had a bad deal with that one unit. JD is ok, but my personal preference gets in the way..... ;)

Park your rear in all of them, 7 buy from the dealer you like. You won't really go wrong as long as you stay away from the China imports.

forget all of those and go with a NH.. they are now about the best out there.. if not go with the kabota.. then mabey the CASE IH and then the JD.. but that is just my opinion.. Tim

I think any would be good if you take a little time and care with them. Don't be hard on the Kubota as anything can go bad on any of them. It would be near thr top of my list if I were looking for something like you discribe. I know a few folks who have them and love them.

My brother in law bought a New Holland TC30 mfwd with a loader . He seems happy with it , it is a basic compact tractor.You can get manual transmission or hydrostatic. (His is man.) He did a lot of shopping and said the New Holland was the best deal in his area.

Not to rain on anybodys parade but there isnt a tractor made in the US under 100hp anymore. They are ALL foreign built under 100 horse. Thats why I"ve got the old AC"s-they are all I need for my small place and were made here.

We bought a JD 4600 with fwa and a 460 loader about 5 years ago and just love it. It has 12-12 power reverser transmission and I added weights to the rear wheels, as they have more lifting power than weight. The only dealer in our area is JD (way up north) so that part was a no brainer. We only use this for tree farming so we only have about 300 hrs. on it but it has been flawless and it will do a lot of work on 3 quarts of fuel per hr.

All the small tractors are import. You can get a tractor from China in the crete for half the cost of a name brand. I here that they are good. They are so much cheaper. I saw a tractor,Frontend loader, Backhoe, Roto tiller, Post hole digger and Bush hog, package for less than a smaller Kabota alone. Maybe it's for you.
I do see well worn Kabota tractors selling for what they cost new so they must be best for resale down the road. Merry Christmas!

I just bought a JD 5103 with 512 loader this month. I am impressed with the power and ease of use thus far. One thing I have noticed is that it is a little light in the rear end even with loaded tires. I ordered a set of rear tire weights for it to help out when moving stuff in the woods. So far with this tractor I have used my 6ft disc, bush hog and even used the loader to clear a road in a moderately heavily wooded area around my 30 acres. It pushed up several stumps and it even took down several 8 and 10in cir trees with no problems. (unfortuantely I already dented the left fender). The over the top fenders are nice for mud but the do get in the way. Clamshell fenders would have been nicer and easier to keep out of the way. Tomorrow I will flip the tires around to widenup the tractor due to the hills I transverse. Overall with just over 20hr, I am very happy. I got it all for $17,900.

Wow $17,900 for a JD 5103. That seems low, is that with the FEL and taxes out the door and new? Is that about 40HP?

It's mind boggling of all the choices out there today in the compact tractor market. This spring I priced from the main 3 Kubota,Deere,New Holland ( same as Case IH )they were all very close in price if you compare the same models. They all have price fighter models that don't have some of the neat features of the more expensive models. Kubota is HIGHER than Deere or New Holland on their attachments so this equals out the lower priced tractor. You won't go wrong with any of those top 3 makers.

we have a 30 hp kubota with 4 wheel drive and front end loader, 2 years old and not the first problem. we also have a 55 hp john deere 2 wheel drive with bucket, have had several problems with it, due to a lousy dealership. if i get rid of the john deere as of now i would get a kubota. with a front end loader the 4 wheel drive is almost needed, you will love the front end loader for doing all types of chores. good luck.

My neighbor has a 20 yo Kubota, besides paint fade it runs good.
Neighbor on the other side has a 15 yo kubota that he literally beats, no maintenance whatsoever, and it still runs.
I've had no problems w/the B7610 I bought for the wife about 2 1/2 years ago.

Any dealers right near you? If the color tractor isn't that important to you, service will be. Try [if you can] to find out which dealer does a good job after the sale, and if any just stink [some do]

I would shop around and look for a year end deal on a John Deere. A lot of dealers are offering pretty good specials on them from time to time. Best utility tractors out there.

I have a 5203 Deere and love it. I think these are about the best bargains in utility tractors at this time. They are simple basic tractors that use very well proven engines and drivelines and they are backed by the Deere network of dealers for parts and service.

Kubotas are very good tractors. MF is coming out with a new 500 series which has the best 3 pt. hitch. They also have some Japanese compacts that are pretty nice. Especially the cab models. The small JD's could be Yanmars. There are a lot of options. I would really shop around. JD's are a lot more money and so are their parts. They all can break down. Check out the dealers. Dave

Dont know, some years back I run a Deere with a loader and fwa. Dont remember the tray tho. It may have been a synchro-shuttle or something like that. This fall I drove a Kubota with a bushog. I wasnt really impressed with the drive setup on that cookie. I would look at as many as I could
I have JD,FNH,CIH, MF close by. Good luck.
