Hi, I'm new to the world of tractors. Today I picked up a Ford 3600 which I intend to use for light duties around my new property. My problem is apparently that the tractor was run out of fuel and the injector pump and injectors need to be bleeded and I haven't got any knowledge on how to go about it. I was told there is a certain sequence that you have to loosen fittings off to get the system to bleed properly. I have used this site as a guide while I was searching for a suitable tractor for my use and am really impressed by the information available on it. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a post on my particular problem. I figured I could blunder around under the bonnet and eventually fluke it, or beg for assistance from someone who knows what's what with tractors and get the job done with little wasted fuel and no frustration. I am trying to source a manual for my beast but it would be really nice to have the old gem running which would help in justifying the purchase to my better half, who is a bit perplexed as to why I would buy something that wasn't running. Many thanks in advance for your help, Errol

Thank you heaps, guys!!! Armed with the knowledge supplied by you kind worldly gentlemen, it took ten minutes to get the old girl fired up and purring like a kitten. My better half is much happier now. Thank you ever so much. Errol

99 000 000 hits on google. First one was so exhaustive, that any diesel engine pump should be able to be bled following those instructions.

Put fuel in tank. losen plug on top of filter and let fuel run until all bubbles are removed. tighten plug. Losen the small @ 5/16 plug on side of pump. Turn engine over until no bubbles and tighten while turning. Open hood and losen the bolt on top of injector and bleed. This requires turning the starter over as well do all one at a time. Sometimes you have to start at pump and do it over. This is the best I can remember as we never let a diesel run out of fuel.

First bleed the filter..Is there a reasonable fuel flow at the bleeder ? there should be..It's gravity flow from the tank..Next , on the side of the injector pump there's a small nut with a 5/16" [ 8mm ] bolt head in it..Hold the nut and remove the 5/16" headed bolt ..This is the bleeder for the injector pump..Run fuel till it's bubble free..Finally you will need to loosen the injector lines at the injectors , crank the engine till fuel flows from the loosened lines . Tighten the lines and start it. Sometimes I'll find not enough fuel flow at the filter[s] , in that case , you will need to blow air back from fuel line into the tank to dislodge any crap that might have settled in the fuel tank shut-off valve...
