Hi,
Weird question here - but what part of the hog do Applebees Riblets come from? They are the small rib pieces, smaller than ribs....no one seems to know...someone said they slaugher little piggies to get riblets, but it seems like they would be expensive then....
Question from a non-livestock farmer..... ..
they sure are good.....

Famous Daves is good also for BBQ. Mostly Ne, SD, and MN. Maybe KS also.

I dont know what part of the hog,but I know almost all chain restaurants get the food from Sysco Foods and its all been frozen. They are on the stock exchange.I find the best food is not from Sysco.Work near a chain restauant and sooner or later a Sysco Foods truck will pull up.It used to be called Martin-Brower Corp.GOOD RIBS:Try the Lloyds Ribs from a pack in the supermarket.Meat dept but not frozen. The sauce is great. You heat a plastic bag in the microwave.Lots of sauce. Not real heart healthy but real good with a potato.

The location is along the spine between the ribs and the pelvis. I know them as "chine bones" on the carcass. In the store, they are known as baby backs and riblets.

Say, I think my family was one of the first to discover riblets around here. My town's grocery store sold them for less than a buck a pound, so we'd buy em all up and barbecue. Now you pay nearly what you pay for normal ribs. I's say Applebee's owes us : )

Good question! About ten days ago I had some in a neat little hometown hotel restaurant in Kamsack Sask. They came with sourkraut(sp) and the combination was excellent. Jim

Apple bees? Ain't those the little things that buzz around the fruit that falls on the ground? Might explain why those ribs are so small.

Riblets are actually still from the back or spare ribs. In order to straighten them up for presentation, we'd run them trough the saw, and the piece you have left over are your riblets. This is coming from someone whose worked in the meat room at our local grocercy store through out high school. Paul

I don't eat at applebee or mcdonalds, but the mcrib at mcd is process pork poured into a mold to make it look like it's got the rib bones in it. Enjoy your meal.

Either that, or something their parent company (they call themselves a specialty chemical / material co.) has came up with in the lab.
