Well, went to pick up my first new vehicle i have ever owned a 2500hd duramax 07. When i was looking at it, (after i signed all the paperwork) i noticed an anifreeze leak. (hope this isnt an omen i know a bad way to start.) But the dealer put me in an 07 chevy impala brand new. He told me jsut put gas in dont worry about the miles. My gosh what a nice car. Never been a fan of cars but this sure is a nice one. XM satalite radio, tells you your tire pressure in all tires and even tells you "Caution ice please drive carefully." All the bells and whistles drives rides great even in the snow and ice almost makes want to keep my old truck and buy the car. Anyone else driven an impala? Whats your thoughts?

They are nice cars but with all them fancy bells and whistles comes headache after headache when something goes wrong. The individual heat switch light goes out and it is $300 to replace the board because the bulbs are not replaceable. They are hard wired in the circut board

Bought the 07 because its pre particulate filter. Should have alot more then the 6.5 395 horse 650 ft lb of torque. Used good 3/4 ton diesels are so rare used ones bringing such a premium i jsut bought the new one. Might keep the impala for the wife but it seems theres a love/hate deal with impalas. Sure is a nice car now. Looking at other lots today to see wahts around price, the monte carlos are sure nice but only saw 2 doors today. are the monte carlos any good?

have a salesman that calls on me and he can't wait to get rid of his 05 Impalla spends too much time in the shop. says they have another one that is the same way. guess somebody has to get the monday morning cars

A buddy of mine teaches ag mech and auto mech at local junior college. Born and raised ford man. What's he drive? New Impala. Can change from E85 back to regular gas at any time and will adjust ratio to match fuel coming out of tank. He trains the mechanics that work on them, so he knows what's good and what ain't. Chris

My '05 Ford Taurus can change from E85 to regular gas at any time and will adjust ratio to match fuel coming out of tank.

My brother has a 2004 Impala. It's a good car for him, but it's built like everything else today in that it's made for someone that's 5'5" tall. I'm 6'5" and can hardly get in it. Why can't they make cars in that price range for larger people?

I can't tell you much about the Impala.
Though I do look for the day when I can stop driving pickups and have a nice car like that.
I will say that my 02 2500HD has 132K miles on it now and I have not yet had to change the front brakes.
True enough! Bought it new.
I haven't done a thing to it except the usual lube oil and filter and had to have a seal replaced in the transfer case that was leaking.
Knock on wood...
That is a very, very good pickup you bought.

My first Chevy was a new White with Red interior 1957 2 Door Bel Air Hardtop with 283 power and powerglide trans. We now own a 2004 Chev Impala and would not drive any other but a Chev. Ours has all the extras excluding XM Radio, plus Custom Leather seating from a local shop as the Factory Leather feels like Plastic in comparison. We are nearing 40,000 miles and no warranty or other work required so far. November is our trade month for a 2007 Impala and we expect the same quality however my friend has an 2006 and for some reason it seems smaller body size than our '04. Any one elsae think this?John

But just think all them bells with a computer will let you down in a heart beat once it has around 50K or 100K on it. Plus the cost to fix when it does brake down. Give me a good old pre 1980s car/truck any day, plus they still have some real steel in them not all that plastic

My thoughts exactly. Obviously, computer engine controls, EFI, electronic transmissions, etc. are Good Things, but there has to be a point where electronic bells and whistles just become something else to go wrong that can't be fixed without $100,000 worth of test equipment.

And frankly, if I want to know what the temperature is outside, I kin roll the (electric) winder down...

Wow , sign me up for a machine with 27+ years of wear,tear, corrosion, abuse and metal fatigue. Don't need or want those anti-loc brakes, air bags or crash crumple zones. The only reason people fear electrical equipment is that they don't know how it works, how to take care of it or how to trouble shoot and repair. I like burning more fuel with carburators and transmissions without lock-up torque convertors.

The only reason people fear electrical equipment is that they don't know how it works, how to take care of it or how to trouble shoot and repair. Very very true I know i woulnt know where to start ont his truck. Also epople who make fualty repairs , scotch locks and splices w/o shrnk wrap in northiern il and the salt corriosn wreak havoc. the flex fuel is nice. The guy at the dealer said dont put e 85 in it milage sufferage wont outweigh the price savings put the gas in and watch milage at 24 e 85 milage wont be 19. So far e 85 drove it today milage stayed at 23 24 according to the computer and gas 30 cents cheaper but drive farther for it.

Nope Model T is a ford and I prefer chevs plus thats just plain to old. cars/trucks form the 70s and 80s work best for me. Plus I don't like auto trannys my truck has a 4 speed

Yeah trust me I know all the elctronic gizmos are nothign but trouble. But sure fancy and nice esp when you used to the old junk. The pickup looks like a real pain to work on everyhting buried terrible, oh well I wont have to work on it anwyas (wouldnt know where to start w/all this electronic stuff) but wait for the bill:(. IF i had to drive a car ssure woudl be a impala. NO more real full sized cars and no rear wheel drive cars, went out w/the caprice but the impala is sure nice. This new one is even a flex fuel. Put gas in it (dealer gave it to me empty of course. Put the e 85 in it fuel milage still ranging from 21-24 (waht it was reading before) I knwo the readouts arent accurate but its reading the same. E85 205 a gallon regular gas 239 diesel 279-289. sure like the e85

IMHA, the EPA figures don't concur with what you are "seeing" as to the same mileage between gasoline and E85. (Unless the 2007's have some "magic" improvements in the ability to get mileage on E85.)

It would be intersting, while you have the car, to run a tank of E85 and note the mileage, and then a tank of gasoline, and again note the mileage, as the in-car mileage readouts generally have a reputation for not being accurate.

Don't get me wrong, I am a STRONG supporter of US ag, and growing our own fuel.

I HOPE the mileage numbers you have been seeing are "real".

I KNOW comptuer readouts are innaccurate. My wifes truck will say usually around 18mpg come out 16 when you had do it. I ahve not done hand calcualations. The tank was under 1/8th when i put e85 in it last night (closest i can come to putting a FULL tank of e 85 in it. ) Today jsut on the computer still reading the same. I dont know didnt reset the trip or remember the milage so i cannot hand calculate it but lets say on straight gas computer says 24 actually get 21.....you would think w/e 85 if i was gonna actually get say 18 the computer would read something like 21 or even 22 ..somethign lower . I do realize computers are in accurate butcompared to ahnd calcs but woudl think there somewheat clsoe and reasint he same. I don tknow, not trying to start an arugment. Just telling you what im finding. Hopefully i get the truck tomorrow and dont have time to test e85 theory and check milages.

Did we really love those old cars that eat up starters and batterys because of the automatic choked carbs that never worked below 20 degrees and the intake manifold crossover that was always clogged with carbon and the oil drain back holes plugged with gunk so the valve covers leaked profusely. Engines barely made it to 100 K and transmissions barely 75K. Mechanical fuel pumps with ruptured diaphrams pumping the crankcase full of fuel. Maybe it's cause I live in the north. Old technology cars are a pain in the drain up here in the north in the winter. I have a frame-off restored '66 GTO and love it to death , but I sure would hate to have to drive it every day, summer and winter, as my main transportation. Those old RWD cars were nothing but a pain in the snow. (and I learned to drive in the '60,s and they were lots of fun to spin around , but now I am older and they are a pain.... These new ones start and run and drive as good at 100K as they did when new. I've had some with original plugs and starters at 100K and still started like new. Nostalgia is nice but not for everyday use.
