Suggestions on rippers

O.K. What I need is a D6 with rippers on the blade to drive around the pastures and root up old foundation blocks, pipes, and buried stumps. What I have is an old Oliver 130 hoss and a Case 110 hoss. It's pasture on top of an old sawmill townsite, and I'd like to renovate some pasture. Can't plow because of the trash, am looking for a large offset, but wouldn't it be best to have some sort of heavy ripper to drag around loosening the compaction and bringing up the trsh first? Matt.

Matt, I agree with Allan here. If you are in Brush Country ie...South Texas. The Dozer opperators have Root plows, on the rear oof their machines and Brush Rakes for the front, so the soil will silt on through and keep the bigger stuff, to pile up.
Check into it!! A good operator will run you about $100/hour on run time. If you get him to just Rootplow he ought to be able to do more than 5 acres/hour depending on density of trees and trash. If you let him pile it up too I will bet a "Big Red" sodawater he will ave 3acres/hour + - alittle. So that should put you in the $35/acre range!!! And that is CHEAP.
After that then start plowing and get the soil in shape for whatever you have in mind. Hope this helps.
Later,
John A.

In my opinion, you shouldn't dig too deep, if it's sawmill garbage underneath. I would go with a heavy offset or a heavy disk. I would stay on the surface, min-till style.

That's what we do out here when we yank out a tree row.

Hire a D8 cat with the 3 rippers. That insures that you get down deep enough to get all the stragglers.

Just my opinion,

Allan

Well, the thing is its not just a fence row, its whole pastures that need it. That's why I was wondering about some kind of heavy something or other I could use on our own tractors and start working a pasture at a time. Just don't know enough about the things to know what I need... besides the dozer... ? matt.
