Chevy K2500 Heat Not Working

I have an "88 Chevy K2500 pickup with the 350 motor and the heat has not been working for me. The motor came out of a different pickup. Before I replaced the motor, the heat worked fine. Today I flushed the heater core and saw some dirt come out but not a lot. Could the problem be the thermostat? What is this motor supposed to run at?

Can't say for sure, but seems like I remember a vehicle long ago that the hoses were backwards on the block ie outlet on inlet-and the heater wouldn't work-might be worth checking out. I had an Air Force shop with lots of different brands so can't say for sure.

The quick disconnect fitting at the rear of intake is notorious for collecting silicone sealer or old metal chunks from a disconnect fitting that broke off previously.
When this happens guess what? NO FLOW!
Easy to check flow;Run the return hose from the heater core to the radiator filler neck with a longer hose.
Your truck may have the return hose attatched to the pass side rad tank.If so it's easy,just drain down rad a couple inches and look in rad to see if flowing While running.Should be real heavy.~brad

There were a number of year models that had a small piece of plastic (or something) attaching the heater control cable end to the plenum door actuator that would break or fall off it's attachment point under the dash.

Mid-center, look up from the floor behind dash and work the heater controls You should see it working if still connected. or see it not working if broken.

A mirror and flashlight may help.

Yep,

The little white attachment on the mode door. Forever breakin', they were.

However, that was on the old body style. The '88 has motor actuated doors.

Hey Allen i could of swore my dads 88 had vacumn acuated doors. it is always sticking.But don't get me to lying i'm not positive

What did the motor come out of? Your pickup needs the correct intake gaskets with the block off port/bleed or the heater suffers.

Thermo is at 195.

The tonner was the old body style and without the same serpentine belt setup? Right?

I'm just thinking out loud here. It very well may be just the thermostat as you say, I dunno.

However, on trucks '87 thru '90 (this is when GM was in the process of changing body styles and the tonners and Surburbans were the very last to come over), I've seen a lot of 'em that would not throw heat to the heater but yet that darned engine would run hot and it always turned out to be that silly intake gasket.

If the tonner had multiple belts, you have to change not only the water pump, but the intake gaskets as well.

No, this 1 ton was a new style model. My heat control is all electronic. The motor is exactly like the one I took out on mine. It is a 350 TBI.

If it was a Classic body style then it was not an '88. Like Allan said, it wasn't till about '91 that the 'burbs and 1 tons were changed over. Not sure about the engine setup. I would make sure you have flow through the heater core like mentioned before, either lower the water in the radiator and look at the flow from the tube or use a different hose to dump directly into top of radiator.
