My buddy has a 35 horse Kubota he bought new a couple years ago. It's lighter than my old tractor but has 4wd and a loader...it's a very well built machine, probably the best on the market. Kubota is one of the few brands that make everything on the machine, from the engine to the tranny. His other tractor is a small, old kubota, probably 20 years old, 15 horse 2 cyl. diesel. It'll pull a mountain down for it's size. I'm not sure why Deere sticks with the yanmar tractors, but they do seem to hold up. I've never thought much about Yanmars. Kioti's look nice, but have not heard much good about them.

I wanted a Kubota when I bought my 855 Deere. Price was the same, but the deciding factor was how the dealer treated me. Also, the steering brakes and hydro pedals on the Kubota are on the same side- doesn't make sense to me- you can't advance the hydro when using the steering brakes say, on a hillside. I've had my 855 for 10 years, and it's been nothing but good. Make sure you get 4 wheel drive.

Kubota makes very good engines and they used to be the number one small to mid size tractor in N. America. Maybe still are. Most every big name compact tractor is a Japanese import. The small JD's are actually Yanmars, but JD owns Yanmar. If they are such pieces of junk, how come they sell so many? I prefer my MF with a superior 3 pt. but would look at a Kubota if I needed a new tractor. Mostly hear really good things about them. Dave

I think it all depends if you have the rare chance of getting a lemon. I used a 4300 Deere, model, year 1999, my neighbor has this tractor and it is quite nice a little big for home use but 35 HP or so and 2900 lbs is nice to have for heavy snow and gravel grading shuttle shift trans. His dad got it used for 10K 2 years ago, what a good deal. I have used a 1998 new holland 25 HP model real nice machine it had the hydro trans and it was a beast for gravel which I pushed and scooped. I have also used a Kubota which I was not impressed with, too wimpy and uncomfortable seat. Those are the newer ones that I have used. A friend of mine has the 2001 7510 Kubota and I think he paid way to much for it, I never drove his. I look at it this way..... Drive all models you are interested in because what ever you buy you will have for years. It pays to take the time and look at all features, comfort, usage, cost. Most offer interest free finance for 3 years. What I would never buy is a Jinma, or Mahindra, or a Kioti. Over seas stuff that I couldnt trust, of course a guy on here will tell me he has one of these and they are great. I also think of the tractors like this 1. Deere = cadillac 2. Case IH new holland = buick 3. Kubota = Chevy 4. Massey/agco = chevy 5. Jinma, kioti = low end import. Just my Opinion here so I hope nobody want to shoot me after reading this.

Well you just made everyones point with that comparison. I work at a Caddy ,Buick dealer and they are junk and so were the Chevy's I'd owned. Toyota,Honda are building the best cars and trucks today.

You don't trust overseas stuff? Which American made tractors do you recommend?

I should have said (non foreign owner companies) I know that the engines are import but the assembly is here, in Georgia for the Deere and NH and the agco/massey is in Illinois or Wisconsin I think.

I have two of them. They have been good to me, and I don't use them for mowing grass either. One of them is ten years old and never been back to the dealer. I have a green tractor that is only six years old and it has been back to mother Deere four times.

What model Deere and what problems are you having ? I have wondered about the new Deere's if the quality was slipping away ? I think the Kubota's are getting better over their older models.

4600 and a 5210. 4600 has 1,000 hrs and has had numerous external and internal hydraulic leaks, smokes a lot. The 5210 was very hard starting in colder weather from the time it was new, below 30 it would smoke teribly for about 5 minutes after starting, the Deere dealer said this was "normal for a 5010 series tractor.

The Kubota's have given trouble free service doing prett tough jobs. Start at 0 or below with no bock heater and no smoke.

I have several tractors including Deere, Ford, and Farmall but my Kubota is the best and it is 29 years old. I am now looking a new Kubota with hydrostatic transmission and power steering.

You will love the hydrostatic especially if you have hills to work on.

I have a B7510 for my little ole home use and live on a hill.

I agree they are friggin junk. Too many stampings where they should be castings. Remember tractors can not be too heavy, but they can be too light. heavier is better.

can't be too heavy

Many of us with land that is sandy and/or often wet need lightweight tractors for much of our work (helps prevent cutting in, getting stuck, soil compaction). We can always add weight when and where needed.

I've hauled several Kubotas on my trailer, both small and large. Believe me, they are much heavier than they look.
